Update on Matrixsynth Ts

This is what they were supposed to look like:

This is what mine looks like:

Horrid! I'll be closing the shop, refunding the couple of people that bought one and letting them keep this little bit of Synth history. : ) Sorry about this. I'll be looking locally at shirts next. BTW, I'll be closing the shop as soon as the orders are done and I receive confirmation from those that ordered them, so technically you can still order shirts, but if you do, I will NOT refund on new orders because I simply can't afford to. So PLEASE DO NOT order unless you actually want one of these soon to be rare collector items! Heh, sorry, had to to. : ) Apologies to the two that ordered. I sent each of you an email so I can reimburse you. If you do not get that email, send me an email.

  1. Yep. CafePress. Too funny on the logo falling off. There are two types of pressings they do, the type that's like an iron on when you were a kid and the type where the ink is imbedded in the fabric, which is what my shirts were. As you can see it did not turn out quite right. You'd think they have the color correction ironed out so it looks like the image they show.

  2. I guess their shirts are Analog and not Digital :)

    hehe

  3. how does that work? did you specify a PMS color? as it is, the closest color to your logo is prabably a special and more expensive as far as inks go. Is it one of those illeagal colors in photoshop that a CMYK process can't make? You'd think they'd at least send you a sample before you sold any, but it's an odd business structure on their part.

  4. actually, that's a VERY DIGITAL color, tough to reproduce in the analog world.

  5. You just upload the image you want and they are supposed to make the shirt for you. To be fair there is a section on how to successfully work with black shirts. I just jumped the gun and thought I'd see how the print came out compared to what they showed as the sample. I assumed they would take care of any color correction to match what they showed on site, I guess.

  6. Hey--

The PNG files for these black tees are a bit of a challenge to create; the process is very unforgiving. It looks as though there's a bit of white artifacting around the edges of the letters on yours? If this was done by removing a white background, even an anti-alias brush may not work well enough. The text needs to be created from scratch on a transparent background for best results.

And even at best, the green color doesn't look satisyingly acid-y anyway, does it. More like minty or even hospital pukey?

The shirts in my shop look OK but reds come through very dark. I'm only giving them a B- but since I have a full-color image no one else can make these things for me (particularly not online with automated ordering, etc.). But for your one-color silkscreen I'm sure you could find a cheap, local alternative!

Sorry to lead you astray with CafePress (it was me that sent matrix there in the first place). My stinky.

  7. I concur with what anonymous said about RGB versus CMYK representations of "matrix green." It looks like an off-the-rack RGB color (00FF00). To preview the crumminess, try converting your logo onscreen to CMYK and watch in dismay as it becomes minty-not-so-fresh.

  8. it's true.
converting documents to cmyk from rgb will do some drastic stuff to your colors.
i do photoshop work for print, and online.
if I do a job in rgb, then change to
cmyk it gets much less vibrant.
maybe try sending them the artwork on a transparent background as a cmyk file.

  9. CafePress require PNGs, which, ironically, only come in RGB. At least in Photoshop they do. I've never heard of a CMYK PNG file FWIW.

How many more MF-ing acronyms can I squeeze into this GD post?

    O_o

  10. Thanks all. Dave sent me a nice PNG with a clear background. Thanks Dave! I'm going to take it to a local shop here and see what they can do with it. The funny thing is I'm wearing my "messed up" Matrixsynth T and I kind of like it! It's growing on me. It has that acidic washed out green - very dark compared the green in my title. It's like a black shirt with some dark green font you can't quite make out at first glance. Kind of cool. So... who knows which one I'll like better in the end. : ) I do want to try an embroidered T next. BTW, the shot in this post is with a flash - in natural light the black and the font is a tad darker - more subdued.

  11. well I got my shirt , I can definitely see how you were disappointed , not a great likeness to your brand logo but if you consider it a gritty lo-fi 8 bit sample of your brand, you can kind of learn to like it ...and besides now it's a real collector's item ...one big disappointment was I stuck it under a black light hopin to get the green to glow like my Trace Elliot stuff , but no luck ......go figure ...I'm keepin' mine , next shirt is RobotSpeak, they've been out of my size for quite a while

  12. Thanks. Yeah, I like mine now. Strange how it grows on you. 8 bit version analogy is perfect. Let me know how you like it in time.

  13. One last note here...

Matrix, if you decide to get a silkscreen shirt printed on a black tee locally, they'll probably want a high-quality black printout of the logo on white paper, not a PNG file.

Let me know if you need that too. I am your humble donkey servant.

  14. Hey, I thought I was the humble donkey servant. All bow to the creator of the Packrat. Thanks Dave, you rule. I'll let you know how it turns out.

  15. Matrix,
I just found* this T-shirt place, which (A) lists Neon Green as a color and (B) says they print on black shirts. Check it out!

*It was advert'd at http://andrew-duke.com/course.html, where I was looking at info about an Ableton Live class

  16. And they have glow in the dark! Oooooh.... I will need to look into that. Thanks! : )
