1100 Little Phattys Sold

Title link takes you to the news post on Sonic State.

“We expected our core customers to be very excited about owning a new Moog synth that is also a tribute to Bob. Our Moog Authorized dealers anticipated this as well and have absorbed 90% of our planned limited edition model. We are very pleased with the market’s reaction to the Little Phatty, and I am confident musicians will be thrilled with the product when they hear it. It’s definitely a Moog.”

  1. Since they are only making 1000 tribute editions..what were the other 100 and how much did they cost?

  2. I'd like to see what the regular edition looks like and how much it costs. Not enough demoes on the moog website anyways. I don't understand why some synth manufacturers only put up something like 6-7 small demoes.

Anyhow i still find this synth pretty interesting... Maybe it's the simplicity...

  3. Those 1,100 LPs have not all been sold to customers. To quote:

" ... 1,100 Tribute Edition synths have been sold to endorsed artists, Moog aficionados, and worldwide distribution partners ..."

So apparently manipulating public opinion includes saying you will only manufacture 1000 of something and making 1100 of them.

I wouldn't give them $500 for it. It's embarassingly limited and looks ridiculous (the Moog MicroKorg)..and lets not mention the name...But I suppose it has an audience or it wouldn't have been made in the first place. The audience just isn't me.

  6. I am not a fan of the Phatty. There's already a ton of other synths that can do exactly what it does and not look ugly at the same time. I'll stick with my vintage Source.

  7. you missed this quote too

Mike Adams, president of Moog Music has told us, “We expected our core customers to be very excited about owning a new Moog synth that is also a tribute to Bob. Our Moog Authorized dealers anticipated this as well and have absorbed 90% of our planned limited edition model.

i still dont get the "one knob per section" thing either

are knobs at a premium now? do they really save that much cost from not putting in 12 or so more pots?

i watched that video of it... so deeply unimpressed... in fact im saddened..

The Little Phatty is available now for $1,475.

are you kidding?? fuck all that

  8. The synth is definitely marketed for newbies and first time synth buyers.

Alot of old-school synth geeks are repulsed by it, so don't feel alone.

It's the result of a group of guys trying hard to find a way to bank off the poor old guy's recent death. ..."signature" edition my ass!

  9. Man, lots of bitterness here! And why are most of the negative comments "anonymous"?

Regarding the price, the Tribute Edition sells for $1375. After those are sold, there will be a standard version which will sell for less.

  10. The ananonymity allows us to state our opinions without fear of zealous Moog backlash.

  12. If you are so confidant in your claims, why not just say who you are? If there isnt any "backlash" now, what makes you think anything will be differant otherwise?

The reason I ask is because it's difficult to tell if it's a group of people who are unhappy with the new Moog product, or if it's just one very vocal individual.

  13. There is better value/money ratios available for other products. Some people don't care about maximizing value/money tho. Lord knows I don't.

Comparing it to a modular, it's still affordable, so hey.

I wish it had more CV I/O. But the voyager ain't so bad on that. Wouldn't mind a voyager one day.

    Pass on the phatty ;)
