There's a lot of stuff that looks like this on ebay:

They also have these 'sending boxes' which are boxes with no actual parts on them -- just knobs and some plates. They go for large coin!
Here's a thought: Don't sell your DYI synth for medium bucks, rename it as a psychic-dolphin pyramid-crystal atlantian amplifier, and sell it for large!
If your DYI synth breaks down and only makes klaka-klaka noises, it don't matter! Charge more!
