Tomita Synthesizers - New Flickr Shot

  1. That's the back of the "Pictures at an Exhibition" LP. The recent Japanese reissue have that picture uncropped with more detail. You can see 3 modules he had no room in his case for. I believe he was influenced by the cover of "Switched on Bach" as what to get - which of course wasn't Cartlos' synth. I think he bought his first modular synth around 1971. His first use I know of was 1972. I guess it's a IIIP with an extra cabinet (note the 2 sequencers). The album in question was recorded in 1974 so I think that's the date of the photo. (the release date was 1975)

    Around 1975 he had got a second full size modular system, more or less Moog System 55, though not with a completely stock configuration, the Bode Frequency Shifter for instance.

  2. I used to think my Eventide Instant Phaser was screwy until I heard "Snowflakes Are Dancing" again for the first time in years. His sounds exactly the same. When the LFO hits one of the peaks it does this wierd wobbly thing. Go figure.
