"In "Good Vibrations: History of Record Production" there's a story about how the Beatles employed some mad guy to build them an experimental console. It didn't really work, but it had level metering via an oscilloscope with 16 traces, one per track. That would be cool. "

ReplyDeleteThat would be cool.
Holy god that's great.
ReplyDeleteI just got me about 200 nixie tubes at a surplus sale the other day. Not quite as cool as this tho.
Personally: I think we went wrong with pixels. I like vector graphics. It's way more stylish.
This is cool. I like those nixie tube clocks as well.
ReplyDeleteI spent the past few days testing various displays for an upcoming synth . They're all variations of LCD technology and I'm longing for something different.
ReplyDeleteI think it'd be massively cool to have one of round tubes displaying ADSR envelopes or maybe even numeric values. Pity they cost $50 a pop and require some pretty serious support circuitry.
50 bucks/pop? I got me about 200 nixie tubes for 1 dollar at a university surplus sale last week. I should ebay some! (I have 99 of one type, like the IN-18, which is the one often used in clocks, etc...)
ReplyDeleteMany are used (pulled out of IBM Mainframes and the like). They look good tho.
Yell if someone wants some cheap.
Cheers
New synth james? : )
ReplyDeleteAlmost as cool as the Tube Clock:

I want one, but at 280 euro, it's not cheap.
Matrix: Yep. It's currently named the "Jesus, are we ever going to finish this bloody thing 1000 XL TURBO"
ReplyDeleteFunny. Definitely look forward to seeing what it's all about.
