Wiard Modular

Update: Please read the comments of this post if you are considering purchasing this Wiard. As always be careful on the 'bay. I'm just grabbing the shots and info for the interesting listings.

No title link, just two shots pulled from this auction. According to the auction 300 series Wiard will no longer be built.

"Seven module Wiard Synthesizer with Classic VCO, Waveform City, Dual Envelator, Borg & Omni Filters, Dual Joystick controller and a Wogglebug in an original Wiard blonde hardwood cabinet. Excellent condition! Manual available as a download on the Wiard site. Patch cables are also included! No Paypal. All shipping/packing/insurance is the buyer's expense. Buy this quick before I change my mind! There will not be any more 300 series Wiard stuff built."

  1. I think it's a scam!

  2. I don't Ebay myself, so, just curious, how can you tell it's a scam?

  3. hmm, no transactions since 2000, a private auction, and accepts only money orders, checks, and wire transfers. not indicative of a scam in and of themselves but taken together, perhaps... any other red flags? maybe a dubious claim about the cessation of Wiard 300 series production? I can't corroborate this but the Wiard site still says you can call for quotes.

  4. If it was a lot auction, I'd buy 7 of them!

  5. I sent Wiard and email. Will see what they come back in regards to the 300 series being phased out. I'll update the post to make sure people read the comments here. Thanks for the heads up guys. And apologies for being Ebay inept.

  6. This seems to be a scam same as the VCS3 available they both have red leather seats in the photo but are both different ebay members. I have emailed the person selling the Wiard and asked them to take a closeup phoo of the voltage meter,if they can do that then it is a scam

  7. replace phoo with photo anc can with cant

  8. Can't comment on the validity of the auction, but the Wiard 300 series is definitely out of production. On Wiard's Web site, it says that Grant is still willing to build some if someone throws enough money at him, but the implication is that "enough" is quite a lot, and judging from his comments about the 300s on Synth-DIY, I don't anyone has written that check.

  9. but someone has written that check. Someone, don't remember who, got a gold-faced Wiard 300, recently. Also, mono-poly -- you have a Wiard 300 series... was it built for you or secondhand?

  10. Normally the money order thing wouldn't bother me; but that coupled with the private auction and the no activity since 2000 make me think it's a scam. It sucks if it is a scam because the guy seems to know what he's talking about (a little bit). That means a fellow synth guy is trying to scam other synth guys. Not the usual scammers who can't even speak english and know nothing about the item.

  11. I believe these are pictures of my Wiard system, which I purchased on ebay last year. I love it to death, and my system is not for sale. Although it's _possible_ that someone else is selling an identical system, potential buyers should probably proceed with caution.

I _believe_ that Grant will still build 300 series modules for individuals that want them. In the past, folks have purchased from him and immediately resold them at outrageous markups, which led to the somewhat off-putting comments on his site.

  12. do you have a vcs3 as well? cause it could also be used in a current auction

  13. They are still available, they're just not cheap and the wait is a while. You have to call... use the phone. You know, all civilized-retro like.

  14. i asked a few weeks back andwastold $10k for asystem!

  15. matrix - you've got a link to synth auctions on ebay and you don't do ebay?! with all the scams and your need to warn people about using ebay (which is obviously a good warning), why not just remove your synths on ebay link and stop advertising for them. they really are EVILbay.

  16. good for grant. $10k for a system outta stop the opportunists from exploiting him. i think the wiard and the vcs3 were originally sold by the same notorious seller a while back. you can be your mommas ass these are scams. thank you ebay for another great ebay opportunity!

  17. wouldn't it be funny if some one was spreading these rumours just to pick up a bargain. You could always pay cash and pick it up in person.

P.S. for this post I think I'll be anonymous !!!

  18. if it is real the person i emailed should send me a photo i asked for...

and if none of you use ebay how do you buy things...i rely on ebay to buy synths as i live australia and most of the good synths left the country 10 years ago :-(

  19. I got the impression that Grant loved designing the 300 series but it having a few built again and a again over time was just too draining and not making him a proper income. I'm sure having to get them built played a lot into the design of the newer frac format. As others have pointed out the lack of a price means it's not that he won't build them, it's just that he needs a worthwhile incentive to do it.

I do which someone would offer him a deal with SMT manufacturing. His designs show real creativity, I think he just doesn't like to build them just to barely break even

  20. this is 100% a scam. This auction was a year ago and it was also a scam...the pictures are of guidos old wiard system

    ReplyDelete
  21. i could be wrong but i think this vcs3 on red chair was the last one guido bought and then quickly resold for a profit. same pics and everything. go ahead and bid and see what happens! :))))

  22. > i asked a few weeks back andwastold $10k for asystem!

Yeah, so? I asked MoogCE (Modusonics) a few years back how much they wanted for a System 55 minus the sequencer... a mere $30k.

  23. i am spewing I missed the Wiard and fennix cheap :-(

  24. The Wiard stuff is still worth the monney. Just call Grant to order a module. I purchase about 1 module/month.

  25. I heard back from Grant:

    "Hello,

I have hand built about 400 of the Wiard 300 series modules.

The through hole parts are difficult to get. They also contain lead
    solder.

They are being phased out by history, to put it simply.

    Hope that helps.

    Grant Richter
