What does a Fenix usually go for? Are they really worth $6000? Didn't they originally sell for around a quarter of that? I know they were a limited run, free market blah blah, but that price is crazy... the line about him never using it didn't go over all that great with me either...
ReplyDelete6000$ is stupid,BTW there where more as 75 build,i think 79 or 80,(i know it because i have had the builder at the phone, after a long conversation he was ready to build one Xtra for me (a real analog amateur)finaly i din't order one,and i don't regret it at all...
ReplyDeleteSOMAX
the best thing about his offer to sell was the photos, havent seen too many good Fenix pics
ReplyDeleteWhile I can't say if used Fenii are going for $6000, they are certainly worth this price range. If you look closely at the module compliment, then note how each module has unusual extra functions compared to an "average" modular, you can see this is an excellent "West Coast" style synth.
ReplyDeleteThe only negatives I can think of is space gets tight in a complex patch, and it'd be nice to have even more dedicated cv and audio mixer inputs, but both of these constraints follow from the incredibly high density of modules in a relatively small space.
Spec out a replacement in Serge or Modcan, i.e. power supply, chassis, 3 vco's, 3 lfo's (2 vc), 2 multimode filters, lowpass filter, analog AND cv-able digital noise, S &H, voltage slew AND dual portamento functions, 2 ring modulators, comparator, 3 vca's, 3 env. generators ( 2 w/ vc), mixers, input preamps w/ trigger generators and env. followers, and see how much it costs.
And yes, it sounds wickedly good...
