  2. K5000s here. More RAM is useful. Good luck trying to find one.

The K5000 series is weird in that a patch takes a certain number of bytes. So, while in theory you might have 127 memories for patches, in practice you might get 70 or so. I learned this from the K5000 list this week.

  3. For those of you who didn't bother translating to English, that page is proposing to clone the ME-1, and you should email the address at the bottom of the page if you would be interested in owning one. That means, if you own a k5000, email that guy! ;)

"Good luck trying to find one" ... I've seen a number of them on *bay... But if this cloning project gathers enough support, we might not have to worry about that any more!

The ME1 is handy, but given that they run about 2/3 the price of a whole new K5k, I never could justify it, especially given that the synth ships with a free copy of sounddiver which will hold even more patches for you and allow graphical editing of the ADD and FF sections.

Of course, not having to upload via SysEx is a little nicer, but for the price of an original ME1, I'd rather get another k5k. Hopefully this clone will be a bit more realistic in cost!

PS After all these years, Kawai still take the cake for best customer support ever, for releasing OS 4.04 to fix an FX bug I found... over 6 months AFTER the synth was discontinued! If only they'd make a new synth... But these days, they wouldn't be so far ahead of their time, and they'd cost too much ;) Or maybe they'd release the source code... but now I am dreaming :)
