spaceman, are you talking mostly about patching things with chords or just getting some basic patches going? The best thing to do would be to get a basic patch going and then experiment. See what everything does one thing at a time. Hmm... I want a System 100 now. Just sitting there for me to explore.
ReplyDeleteWell for quick specific answers you cable the keyboard and gate output of the 101 to the keyboard and gate inputs of the 102. Both are jacks have a dark box around them to make they easy to find.
ReplyDeletePatch cables are optional because both units are normalized (internal patch connections happen when external patchcords aren't used) at this point you have a chance to get to know the instrument by just using the knobs. You can run the 101 and 102 to different channels on a mixer and what you get is a stack of 2 monosynths - a lot like like the Yamaha CS-15 or MaxiKorg. If you just have a guitar amp or single channel sound system then you can routh the high output of the 101 into the 102 Mixer input and use the 102 High out as a master out.
The next step is using the patch cables to make more complicated patches, but it's more effective learning if you first master maybe the 101 alone then the added features on the 102. Then go nuts and start patching between the two.
I guess the biggest flaw in the system is both units just have a voltage controlled low pass filter. You get high pass filters but they are just manually controlled. It's okay if you have a stack of 2 parallel patches, but if they put a multimode in one of the units then you could get more out of the pair in series if one had other modes
um... its very easy to make a highpass out of a lowpass. just use a mixer.
