  1. Too bad that it's become a commercial venture. Sad.

  3. "Note: By submitting material to the contest you hearby grant Cyndustries, thiaMedia, and/or Cynthia Webster non-exclusive permission to reproduce the submitted piece of music, with or without compensation, in a Bug Music complilation disc, or any other media worldwide. All pieces must be submitted by the original artist and must be accompanied by artist's actual first and last name, street addresss, email address, and phone number. Naturally, Cyndustries reserves the right to eliminate any piece it finds objectionable. "

  4. In contrast, last years entry form said:

"Cyndustries is considering releasing a disc of all entries once the contest is complete. Please let us know if you're interested in having your material included on this thiaMedia release. Any profit from the sale of said disc would be split evenly after basic expenses are met, (more information soon)."

So, it went from you keeping ownership of any piece submitted and compensation for a possible album to "scew you and you might win a zeroscillator". Let's hope it doesn't turn into one of these:

Winner of the 2006 aleatoric contest: Borat Sagdiyev. No questions, please...

  5. I'm not saying I care about if Cyndustries is hosting it and turning it into a sort of free advertising campaign by giving away a prize. That's great. But it's the whole "exploitation" legaleze that irks me.

  6. They are probably just trying to protect themselves. Imagine this scenario: Someone sends them some content. They put it up for others to enjoy. Then that person decides they want the content off and threatens legal action if they don't take it off. : ) By putting in that disclaimer, that is no longer an issue. It's lame that they have to do this, but stuff like that clearly does happen. All the more power to them if they want to protect themselves.

  7. Then Cyndustries could just say something like "when you submit a piece, you grant us indefinete permission to host it on our website without compensation".
