Unfortunately this one has a crack by the headphone jack. Make sure to check out the links below, particularly the "Apocalypse Cow" video.
Some details:
"The Kawai K5000S is a turbo charged synthesizer with both samples and additive waveforms! The inclusion of an advanced arpeggiator, 20 realtime knobs (transmits CCs for control of other synths), 50 buttons, a nifty data wheel as well as a keyboard action that is to die for make this a very expressive instrument! The keyboard in itself is one of the best keyboard actions available in a synth today! What about the sound? The K5000s sounds uniquely rich and complex and cuts through the mix in any recorded track. It can sound like a Yamaha DX-7 but has a rounder edge to it's tone...if a digital synthesizer can sound warm and organic, this synth would be the answer. In a world of copycat technology and design, the K5000S is probably the most esoteric synth to have ever been produced, crossing the line between evolving digital and analog timbres with full control over it's parameters...and there are a lot of parameters!!! This synth is very very spacey!!!!"

I have a K5000w. Really great keyboard action.
ReplyDeleteNeat keyboards for sure. I was amazed at a 303 demo site that showcased a lot of synths doing their take on 303 sounds. The K5000's was pretty good too.
Yes the keys feel wonderful to the touch though the rounded black keys make one's fingers slip into another key pretty easily. I don't think it sounds like a DX, one big reason is it only does harmonics. You can't use noise, enharmonic or clangorous sound elements. One of the things the DX offered was the ability to add "stuff" to a sounds attack. Like smething moe complex than noise to a flute "chiff" or the buzz before a horn sound.
ReplyDeleteIt does make some sense it could do a decent 303 since the 303 relies on one osc and a filter resonating, something that can be set up as the numerous harmonics have.
I guess sooner or later soft synths will realize this reasonably old series had a good control interface. (I've never really taken to Cube, though I guess I should dig further) The way I see it is if you had the option of detuning a bunch of select harmonics, perhaps making a chaotic cluster of them then you'd have the tools to take it to the next step

ReplyDeleteI believe the site that doktor future mentioned is www.deepsonic.ch (pretty good synth site)
