it reminds me a picture from a lp of patrick moraz named "future memories" (released recently on cd) where he improvised with many nice synths (including his oberheim sem, cs80, mellotron, and so many others ...)

Oberheim OB-1 listed, not in pic.
Not sure what's to the left the SynKey, could be the P5 or OB-1...doesn't look like either, though.
Also, the D6 could be above something as well...it's rather high up.
Despite the fact that the OB-1 and P5 aren't listed on the sleeve I still believe they featured on the record given that both had become available (though still in small numbers) before the recording was completed in May 1978.
ReplyDeleteOnly a select few musicians/synthesists had access to a P5 this early on, the only ones I can think of at the moment are Herbie, Joe Zawinul, Roger Powell, and Rick Wakeman.
Speaking of Herbie's Sunlight album, there was some use of Pat Gleeson's E-mu modular on there too if I recall correctly. Does anybody know if it was listed on the Lp sleeve?

I just noticed myself the E-mu (Gleeson's) is indeed listed among the synths used on there.
ReplyDeleteThe keyboard to the left of the EML Synkey has gotta be the Solina string ensemble.
Afaik, Herbie used it for the first time on Wah Wah Watson's album "Elementary" which came out in 1976. With other words the Synkey was available in 1976, contrary to what many synth books and webpages out there claim.
