  1. did the phatty always have noise? if it didn't, how did the os upgrade suddenly give it noise? digital noise maybe?

  2. Noise could've been added digitally, some digital noise sources are quite acceptable. Then again, the LP is supposed to have an all-analog signal path. Uh oh!

They've also added a second modulation path, excellent!

  3. I was wondering if it was software. I know it didn't have noise because Carbon111 mentioned it on his Little Phatty at last year's PNW Synth
Gathering. You can hear him mention it 54 seconds into this video. If it's not software it would mean the hardware was there but not activated.

  4. Its software implemented. The notion that the hardware has been in the in the tribute edition this whole time but not utilized is just downright silly.

Digital noise is better than no noise!

  5. better yet if one could choose the type of digital noise.

Like, red/Brown noise, white noise, pink noise

  6. Isn't it noise modulation as opposed to noise in the signal path.

That's what i've read on the Moog webpage anyhoo.

  7. Yes it is software-generated noise as a modulation source... it is converted to an analog signal and then used to modulate the sound in the analog domain (audio signal path is all analog). You can actually sort-of select from multiple flavors of noise... the regular noise is white-ish, but if you use the sample & hold and turn the LFO all the way up, you get a more reddish noise. Turning the regular LFO waveforms to their highest speeds gets you some other noiselike effects... puce noise maybe, or mauve.
