Roland EG-101

Title link takes you to shots pulled via this auction.

Anyone know roughly how many of these were made? I rarely see them for sale. I was hoping you'd eventually find these for a couple hundred or less. I always wanted to get one for my daughter. Yeah that's it, for my daughter. : ) Something about the built in speakers and the tilted panel always made me want one, but never at the original prices.

  1. Hmmm I have one, but it's fused gota get it fixed... albeit the two inbuilt speakers, there's some fun (or serious) modelling that can be down on the EG101...

Matrix, peeps in Singapore are like letting EG101 go every now and then. Think the marketing campaign pushed it. The last I saw on local auction sites it was going for SGD$400 so that's about USD$260. It's quite a heavy for a machine this size...

  2. I meant "there's some fun (or serious) modelling that can be *DONE on the EG101". Sorry for the typo

  3. $260 isn't too bad considering I never see them here for sale. I heard soundwise it was basically like an MC-303 with keys. I also heard the editing was fairly limited. Can you edit the basics like OSC, Filter, ENV and LFOs or is more a preset synth with limited parameters like the Oberheim OB-SX?

  4. Hi Matrix, I wun pretend to be expert in it. But with my limited use of it I think it has a simple filtering section and the arranger or played by using parts control is a feature for some performance value... But I don't think it offers modelling to the extend of osc, evelope and stuffs... but you can add effects, filters or model via the d-beam. It's more of a workstation where parts can be muted on the fly and stuffs... So it has worked around the idea of giving a performance based synths where arrangements of parts are fast and has a in built sampler.

I've worked on some easy arrangements in it and it's speedy because of the features. But yep it's quite limited. But it has a sampler section and everything can be effected either through it's internal effects or via the programmable d-beam if I am not wrong. Stored in my store-room for like 5 years already so I may be inaccurate. But the patches or presets are quite pretty. Definitely worth just to have one for fun. If you find a good deal get it. If you want me to keep a look out for you I can, if you figure the shipment would make the deal a bad one... :P

  5. Thanks sonicbrat, no need to keep an eye out for one. Sounds like a fun piece to have around on the side. One up from the casiotones at least in audio quality and not quite a full blown synth.

  6. I'm in the process of trying to sale mine. I've had it for a couple years, but when I ordered it, the end got knocked around in shipping so the last few keys have always stood up, though the pad is functional underneath, and there's a big crack on the plastic casing. I got a hundred bucks out of the insurance, but never got around to getting it fixed. Long story short, it was a good synth for me, but I'm just more of a banjo kinda man. Seems like I see fewer on eBay these days than a couple years ago; that's for sure. It's definitely a fun little (but heavy indeed!) machine for the buck. Good luck!
