Inside a DSI Poly Evolver Keyboard

Title link takes you to more shots sent my way via brandnewmath, who wanted to say a good few words about Dave Smith Instruments after they repaired a problem actually due to the prior owner:

"I'd like to add that DSI is a model of good customer service: they reply to emails promptly and thoroughly, are polite and do not assign blame, do their best to fix the problem without having to charge you, have extremely reasonable expired-warranty repair terms, and pay for shipping both ways (!). I definitely recommend them and want to buy more stuff from these guys."

I couldn't agree more.

  2. discrete component technology has really come along way since the late 1970s. If it looked like this back then we'd all have Prophet-20s and they wouldn't over heat. ;-) Its great to see DSI doing this stuff!

  5. My PEK has green PCBs.

Also Dave Smith sent me a couple encoders so I could fix one without sending him the whole board or even just a PCB.

  6. The PEK isn't exactly "so analog".

  7. Two of the three oscillators are analog ones, and the other is a wavetable one... AKAIK the PEK uses a CEM or SSM filter and an ASIC with the oscillators... LFO and ENV are digitally generated... but that won't impact so much on its analogueness... I think that the mix of analog and digital is a winner...
