Roland JX-10

Title link takes you to shots pulled via this auction.

The buy it now is high without the PG-800, but according to the auction, the MSRP was $2500 when it came out. And that was with the value of the dollar in the 80s. Think about that. We really do live in good times when you think about it. When I was 16 I had to save for about a year and beg my dad to get my first synth, a Matrix-6 for $1100 or so. It was a stretch but I never regretted it and I still have it to this day, hence, matrix and matrixsynth. I never would have dreamed that one day we'd be able to get these expensive synths for so cheap. Now if we could only turn the clock back just a few more years : )

  1. Sure, crap Roland synths are cheap now. And good (or at least, inexplicably desirable/collectable, like the 303, 808, 909, etc.) synths are expensive.

I'm not a fan of the 8P or Super-JX.... they both sound much too thin. The market would seem to agree with me.

One exception is the JX-3P. You can get one for $150, it's all analog, and sounds wonderful.

Anyway, this is just Rolands we're talking about. It's a totally different market for Moogs, Obies, Arp, etc.

Damn, I feel like Ric Romero now. Captain Obvious... too early this morning for original thought I guess. Sorry...

  2. The JX-3P uses DCO chips and is no more analog or digital than the 8P or JX10.

    Fine, you're right.

  4. Agree with Dave. Owned a JX10 with PG-800 for many years and was continually dissatisfied with the thinness of the sound and the slowness of the envelopes. Eventually sold it and don't miss it. Not a desirable piece in my view.

  5. Yeah, I had a JX10 back in the day, and it really wasn't terribly inspiring... My Jupiter8 ate it for breakfast.
