  2. I've been trying to slim down the studio for some time. This is maybe the first thing thats actually worked much better than expected :D

My "ideal" setup has always been three boards and a handfull of modules, all reachable from one position...I'm pretty much there now.

...now people just need to buy the gear I'm selling before I get the creditors on my back ;)

  3. It is really a great keyboard. I have the 88 in my dining room. Sort of a Musical Theatre concept I guess.

  4. Its certainly classy enough for a dining room :)

Have you tried the LAC-1 expansion yet? Any opinions?

  5. Ya, I do have the LAC-1 expansion. It's quite nice.

I have yet to use it as a Sampler much. I just don't really have time to organize sample sets.

It's pianos are -okay-, and that's why I got the 88 key. I wanted a piano action mainly.

Funny thing is, Karma acts differently on it than the original Korg Karma -- which in my opinion, has better Karma (esp. with the editor). I find that this new Karma 2.0 is not as 'groovy' in some ways. Maybe Stephen Kay got some feedback to narrow in some dimensions and expand in others.

If you can afford it, it's quite a good device. Software is very responsive. Still crashes a bit tho.

What I like most is that the Rompler & Analog emulations do something 'odd' with Stereo. That is, there is some motion in the stereo field. It's not just a sound panned in a stereo space. That's what gives it its 'fresh' sound IMO.

I must now stop buying stuff. I've long ago run out of places to plug it all in.

  7. :D

    I've thought about that before...

Can't say I really like its programming UI much at all. To each their own ;)

  8. This really means you need to get rid of your Q rack now, right, Carbon? ;)

Crashes? I'd like to hear more about those...

  9. Actually, as of this writing, the Q and the PEK are starting to feel superflous...I'll sit on everything for a couple of months before making any rash decisions though ;)

As far as "crashes" go, the Oasys has been solid though I've tweaked just about everything and done three OS upgrades.
...the CPU is used more like a DSP, making it more robust and way more powerful than any available PC-based platform. The Linux on there is just the barest skeleton on which the synth OS is molded - all the processor's power is dedicated to the synth. I'm keeping an eye peeled for any "bad behavior" but so far, so good

  11. Man, one half of me thinks I'd love to have an Oasys, I could self off most of my gear and have plenty of change, but for £5149 UK price I would not expect to have it crash!

I guess its the nature of the beast though with a lot of these modern dsp based synths, but for me even 1 crash would really annoy me. Having said that though it does look to be a very nice system, and I can totally relate to the whole slimming down the studio concept.

  12. "but for £5149 UK price I would not expect to have it crash!"

Boy, you would have been mad if you had bought a Waldorf Wave back in the day, I imagine.

    ;)

I'm looking forward to seeing how Carbon merges with his Oasys. I was just reflecting that only in the past few months have I really got comfortable with a Laptop-only setup - simpler IS better!
