"i have one, love this synth. To me it sounds like an "Oberheim SEM on steroids" ;-). Because it`s a kind of SEM-Clone, but modular. But apart from that, it stands on it´s own. There are some prepatchings, so you cou don`t need too many cables to get it running. The Oscillators are stable, they are like those on the SEM, but with added Suboscillators and it has also Noise and Ringmod. The 2 Main-Envelopes are switchable from slow to ultrafast, these are one of the fastest enevelopes i`ve ever heard. Wonderful for those clicky sounds for cut`s n clicks... There is also a 3rd, simpler ad-env for modulations. The LFOs are very fast and flexible. The Filter sounds great and is 12 db, but it can selfoscillate too, eg to create electropercussion. You can morph between the modes (with modulation input!)...LP, HP, BP, Notch. When i am missing 24 db mode, i am patching it with a moogerfooger filter. this is a bit tricky because you don`t have a dedicated patchpoint for the VCA. Anyware Instruments is a small company, really a one man show, but Tommy, the owner, is a really helpful and nice guy. The Semtex is build solid with hi-quality parts. I have made some demos with the Semtex only, find them here (on the anyware website are a few more):
The Idea for the Semtex was born on the german sequencer-forum sequencer.de ; there you could also ask in english for more detailed infos about semtex xl.
Sorry if this reads like a promotional ad, but it`s one of my absolute favorite mono-synths :))
Best,
