EMS VCS3

Title link takes you to shots pulled via this auction.

Details:
"EMS VCS3 mk1 in almost pristine condition. This is the Mark 1 Putney with individual waveforms on the matrix. As you can see the unit is in unbelievable shape. Everything is functioning perfectly except the trapezoid light is burnt out. I have an original replacement part which I will include. I haven't put it in because I'm not a tech. There are no scratchy pots and the matrix works perfectly. The spring reverb on this thing is amazing! The knobs have been replaced with moog style knobs, but I will include the originals. Auction includes vcs3, original vinyl dustcover, the 20 original pins, 20 new pins, the original manual, full schemetic manual, a facilities cable to connect- pitch/cv, dk 1 or 2, 8 octave filter, or random noise generater., midi/cv cables, and extra documentation from ems."

  3. fucking hell. I bought my Putney from a Junior High School for $750. Are they _really_ going for $5500? They're nice, but you can get a _lot_ of modular for $5500...

  4. Its that whole "collectibility" aspect that drives prices up over what they are from a practical sense. This applies to, well, most everything.

  5. when i was a kid the sk-1 was a toy....blah blah blah blah blah

...but in all seriousness....you're right about getting a nice modular for 5500

  6. Ah, good ol' unchecked collectors.
Guaranteed that before decade's end, a Buy It Now for $10k will happen for a Putney.

I know there's supposedly an 18-month long waiting list, but how much does a new unit from Robin cost?

  7. 18 month waiting list!!! HAHAHAHA!! I've been on that thing for over 3 years. I check in every other month and its the same story. "Oh you know. we're still collecting all the bits and gearing up for production. I've got about 6-10 almost done from the last batch. I hope to sell those around this Christmas." In his defense he said that the SoundBeam has been taking up a lot of his time so he hasn't been able to full organize the current batch but that he really wanted to get them going this year because the whole process has been taking way to long. Personally, I figure I'll just wait for a new one. It might sound a little different but to me when you're spending that much on a synth I don't want to deal with getting it fixed as soon as you buy it.
