"this is a full downloadable book with diagrams, photos of sound waves using archaic photographic techniques (which someone will now use on their next album cover), and lots of sine/cosine math stuff about sound and theory laying the groundwork for sampling and synthesis. these guys were photographing and measuring the properties of real instruments...the only thing they needed was the technology to then reproduce what they measured...which we now have. dope and very scientific. we have it so easy."
Title link takes you there.
Update: To read the book when you get there just click on the first image on the top left under Summary. Once you get there use the arrow buttons in the blue bar on top, to flip through the pages.
so how exactly does one download this? wait for the page to load then save it as an html file? if that's the case, could someone who's done this please tell me how large the resulting files are?
ReplyDeleteThis book is not for download. It's just part of the Google Booksearch, where one can look after particular search terms and order the book at stores listed on the right side of the page.
ReplyDeleteactually, the book is not available for download.
ReplyDeletemy mistake. it is available to read online, for free. yes, anonymous, the full book is available at google books for you to read on your computer screen in a google book reader. it is the "future" and we can do that. you don't need to "buy" the book to enjoy it and learn.
if you are planning on searching for free books on books.google.com, click the tab under the search bar that says 'full view books', and do a keyword or title search. the only books that come up will be ones available in their full form, for free. some can only be downloaded in pdf format and some are available only in the google book reader.
google lovingly digitized the book "The Science of Musical Sounds" on August 30th, 2006, for you to read and learn. click on the title link in matrix's post and then under the cute little picture of the book, where it says "read this book", click your mouse.
no one is trying to sell anything and you don't have to buy anything.
some books that are digitized by google are available for download, some are available to read online, and some are not fully available either way because people want to sell them/copyright issues. a good bulk of the the books that you can read online or download in their entirety are educational, for now. read a book.

Hello gersten,
ReplyDeleteI don't know your country, but I am using german internet, and clicking the link brings up the german version of books.google.com, where I can NOT read that book online. It just shows a fragment of the book and a link (in German): "where is the rest of this book?" that brings me to a page of google with the explanation "why can i not read the complete book - we respect the copyright of the authors bla bla bla".
I just tried via anonymizer hydemias.com , and THEN I can see "READ THIS BOOK" under the picture!
So I am not blind as you where thinking, it's just a copyright problem in Germany with google....
same problem with the uk..
ReplyDeletei didn't know about the copyright problem in germany. apparently you didn't either when you fired off your first comment.
ReplyDeletenow that you have gotten a chance to check out the book...pretty cool? no?
Great book, reminds me quite of the book "On the Sensations of Tone" by Herman Helmholtz, published in 1863.
ReplyDeleteI do like those optical oscillograms, smart guys they have been back in time.
