    as used by prince is a pretty solid selling point for a drum machine. I think I dig his funky beats above all and have to actually control myself not to throw that peculiar clap on top of everything :D

    Far as I've read and heard, Prince used mostly a customized Linn LM-1 and possibly the LinnDrum LM-2.

    Any proof that this thing was used by Prince?

    yes... Linn is what comes to mind when it comes to prince beats, a bit of oberheim too maybe. there are reports of him using this dpm48 thing around, including something from comments in this blog.

    I had one of these things a few years ago and I just sampled it then sold it.

    If you get one and intend to actually program beats rather than just sample it you need the programming cartridge because without it you can't program anything.

    i had a sequential circuits drumtracks as a teen and changed the chips around and you could get prince clap snare sound
