Title link takes you to shots via this auction.

Slider box for the Roland D-50 LA Synth. Click the image so you can see what you can edit on the synth. Unfortunately the top right row is hard to make out. Check out these previous posts for more shots if you want to see what they are.

  1. this thing turns a D-50 into a JD 800, but you will still end up stepping and switching menus between the single sound and the layer/ performance mode for adjustments, its not quite wysiwyg

  2. I don't think that's accurate is it? They have different synth engines from what I understand. Can a JD-800 cover everything on a D-50?

  3. Correct, it's not the same engine but it's similar. The real point as I see it is the JD-800 made such a splash because the put the knobs back on as stock for the first time since this was offered as an option. The actual synthesizer technology was just a variation on what Roland had in nearly everything for the prior few years and continued to use often with the same engine until their VAs came out a half decade later.

  4. p.s. I meant sliders (not knobs), so I guess you can draw the conclusion that if people bought more of these fairly expensive units they would have kept offering them with the next few years models of more or less the same synth. Not that it qualifies as a conspiricy or anything but it's funny in hindsight that the JD-800 caused such a stir for just returning the sliders that they removed. You'd think Roland went back to analog or something (especially since the JD-800 was far from cheap and some people mistakenly believed it was analog)

  5. the jd800 looks almost scary actually, just short of a big red button and two keys to be guarded by the president and the secretary of defense. it looks like it could destroy the planet if it fell on the wrong hands, I mean.
