Synton Syrinx

Click here for shots pulled via this auction. Interestingly this is the second one up for auction this month. They are extremely rare. Via the previous auction:
"There are 300 Syrinxes on this planet. 3 of them are white, 20 of them are blue, 20 of them are red and the rest is black. 2 BPFs and a LPF all with cut/peak control at the same time. also strange bending sensor and modulator. HARDWARE: 2 CEM3310 EG 2 CEM3340 VCO 2 CEM3350 Dual VCF 1 CEM3360 Dual VCA."

This one sent my way via the seller.

  1. What exactly makes these things worth $5000 USD? 300 units isn't *that* rare. If rarity is all anybody cares about, then hell, I've got a one-of-a-kind turd I just manufactured if anybody wants it for $10K.

I monkeyed around with a Syrinx a couple years ago... it wasn't exactly blown away or anything (the Priests did not priase my name on that night [obscure]). So I must be missing something...

  2. Typo alert. *I* wasn't blown away.... not it.

Well, it wasn't, either, but that's beside the point.

  3. Well it's obvious if one went for a huge chunk of money that someone who has another has a pretty good chance to get almost that kind of money from the couple people bidding on the first one.

As for is it worth it, well it is a really great sounding synth that was rather expensive and out of fashion in it's day. As monosynths go it's definitely one of the best couple designs ever from just about any standpoint (you know unless you bought one and it broke or something). On the other hand it is just a monosynth.

I'd think a lot of people would not agree it's worth that much but it really doesn't matter to someone who want's one bad and has some money. There are a lot of more expensive collectables out there.

  4. I declare, from my vantage deep into the forbidden future, that now is the time to sell all your ancient Analog synths.

History will show a number of reasons:
    1) Increased sun spot activity will burn out capacitors.
    2) The great global economic collapse is nigh, so you need to convert your synths into cash, and that cash into food-stuffs to weather this next world war.
    3) The word verification below is "ZBTUTR". how weird is that?
