via ghostdog.

"Richard James aka aphex twin is now recording under alias "the tuss". he has a my space Brian Tregaskin. apart from having music which is a great taster for his forthcoming LP, there are some synth shots. Can anyone work out what modular it is?"

  1. looks like a formant mss2000 (2nd gen of the kit from elektor magazine) if you turn the picture 90 dregrees clockwise.

    compare with this: http://www.sexomodular.com/formuto.html

  4. Yeah, that's definitely the formant mss2000. Very nice. I'd put up a new post on that, but it looks like I got it already: link. Also one here. I'll add a tag for formant mss2000 for these. Thanks for spotting it.

  8. track on the EP called "GX-1 solo" .
as AFX is a HUGE synth collector .
my guess is he has to have on of the HUGE synths . and its not a deceiving name as we are lead to believe by hanging onto his marketting attitudes from the early 90s (boy who cried wolf) .
    ive never heard a GX-1 before .
can anyone shed light on if it sounds like it is one .

  9. I am sure this is one of Richard's monsters along with quite a few others. Our wet dreams of synths have been realized by this man AFX and I am quite happy that he puts them to such great use. If you are a fan of his music you can pretty much hear almost any synth you have ever wanted at some point in his log of tunes, as well as outboard gear and recording devices and methods. However, I am really dying to know what kind of mixing desk he uses! If anyone knows, please chime in. His production on works since the Analord volumes is among the best I have heard in ages for synth based production. AFX is a true master of the field and I really like where he's going and love that he's taking a turn for the better and more obscure now that the genre needs some new changes. Anyway, enjoy all the AFX as I am quite sure he will be a permanent fixture in the history of music, and among the greatest at that.

  10. anybody has the schematics or any info for the 16x3 sequencer in the top cabinet?

  11. i find it funny how most of the Analord series has a string like hum under most tracks, its like he never muted the chanel, i originally thought it was my friends turntable but once i bought the CD version and now The Tuss ep its still there!

I put money on it he records the sounds of someof his synths using a mic to record what is coming out of the speakers to give you a live feel

  12. Yes, acutally he does use a mic quite often to capture the acoustics within certain environments.

  13. i dont think that the tuss is really richard d. james. is there any official evidence anyway? my opinion is that it is some guy who succeeded imitating afx's style. i might be wrong of course. but something in those tracks are way too unmature. richard would have made them far better. if he did that on purpose, thats something else..
    there's some lack of quality.

  14. Listening to the leak of the forthcoming album, the first track is named "Synthacon 9". Anyone with a tab on modular synths may have noticed that RDJ was put up on the Metalbox site as a user of their modules (most of which are manufactured version of CGS modules). What's in the CGS range? A version of the old Steiner Synthacon filter.

It's a long shot but still, this just adds to the evidence including the massive use of Analord sounds. Alspacka bass = Bwoon Dub.

  15. "I am not Richard D James" "The Rushup Edge leaked version is a fake!"
    and he does'nt have a gx1

  16. It's not RDJ, it's RS. A.K.A FG. No more clues.
