Don't sleep on a chance to see Don Preston! I've had a chance to see him perform several times recently and he is rockin that Moog as hard as ever. Aside from being one of my musical heroes, he was a pioneer of the synth in rock (or whatever you want to classify Zappa's music as). Only 3000 miles and a gig on the same day are keeping me from this show.
ReplyDeleteLikewise, Pat Gleeson could be said to be a pioneer of the synth in Jazz/fusion (think Herbie Hancock, Eddie Henderson, Benny Maupin, Charles Earland, Lenny White and others...)
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Don Preston still owns the huge 'plexi-glass' Moog modular which he bought from Gleeson back in the early/mid '70s, anyone knows?

ReplyDeleteIf you have the chance to hear Don Preston talk about synths and funny things DONT MISS IT!.....if you have the chance to hear him perform please avoid it at all costs.....it's probably one of the worst shows i've been to in my entire life....some call it talent, others (like me) call it boring, easy synth noise.
