New Knobs for Your Synth

"Good vibrations, Bad vibrations it’s all about vibrations!! RAM would like to introduce a new signature level knob developed for the mighty Silver Rock potentiometer. The standard bakelite knob is certainly the best sounding compromise... but now Audio Consulting has taken this aspect of the Silver Rock much further. The new knobs are custom made with beech wood and bronze where the bronze is used as the insert to mount to the stem of the volume pot. The beech wood is coated several times with C37 lacquer for best sound as pointed out by Dieter Ennemoser. How can this make a difference??? Well, hearing is believing as we always say. The sound becomes much more open and free flowing with a nice improvement in resolution. Dynamics are better and overall naturalness is improved. Here is a test for all you Silver Rock owners. Try removing the bakelite knobs and listen. You will be shocked by this! The signature knobs will have an even greater effect…really amazing! The point here is the micro vibrations created by the volume pots and knobs find their way into the delicate signal path and cause degradation (Bad vibrations equal bad sound). With the signature knobs micro vibrations from the C37 concept of wood, bronze and the lacquer itself compensate for the volume pots and provide (Good Vibrations) our ear/brain combination like to hear…way better sound!!"

$485 knobs
In the same vein:
$159 cable elevators
$1180 Power cord

Do I really have to warn you on this one? What do you all think?

  2. These look great for my couture circuit bending emporium!

So if you have $18,750 to spend buy one of my circuit bent Casio SK-1's, top quality materials used throughout including venetian marble keys, burr walnut casing, titanim plated buttons and a light dusting of original victorian house dust for that true vintage warmth.

  3. I already have solid gold knobs encrusted with diamonds on my Boss pedal, connected with a 1000$ NASA engineered cable and a 1200$ "discrete" power supply.

Yeah, I know, I got it made.

  5. okay, so the ad copy is total bunk, like most audiophile crap, but there is a situation where wood knobs over metal knobs matter.

    that's a theremin.

for pretty much every other situation ever, the will only sound awesome at the cash register :D

  6. "overall naturalness is improved"

So, explain to me how the overall 'naturalness' of an electronic signal is 'improved'? This whole pile of steamin' bull**** seems to me to just be waiting for the FTC to step in due to unsupportable claims. How much more 'natural' can you make a stream of electrons? For that matter, what sort of musical/aural criteria is 'naturalness'?

P.T. Barnum would be proud of these people. Seriously.

  8. Here's the key phrase:

"Well, hearing is believing as we always say."

For these types, it is more accurate to say "believing is hearing".

Besides, anyone with half a brain could tell you that that beak sticking out of the side of the knob will totally ruin the sound. Pure natural round knobs rule!

  9. Hopefully no more money than sense audiophile types stumble across this and get their precious feelings hurt. Of course we shouldn't get too smug, as musicians can get on these kind of kicks too, like the people who swap 15 different pickups out of their guitar in an effort to get "that sound."

  10. We don't need new knobs, what we need is well-designed and affordable studio furniture and equipment stands. The way I see it, you either have the choice between rocker-oriented stage keyboard stands or Ikea tables and shelves. You'd think that with the hundreds of "tabletop" products available today someone would have come up with a way to set it all up properly, as I would think this has more of an effect on inspiration and music making than the number of layers you apply on fancy, overpriced wooden knobs.

  11. The problem with C37 is that it only really works above the equator.
