"That and the minimoog belonged to Skinny Puppy. The Prophet, was Dwaynes, and the mini was Cevins. Cevin signed the P5. They are a huge influence for me, so it really was amazing to have that done. :)"
In the shot:
Sequential Circuits Prophet-5
Oberheim Matrix-6
Korg Prophecy
That's awesome. I'm somewhat surprised those pieces aren't stored away in Subconscious Studios.
ReplyDeletethose are two great pieces of history. I have Bill leebs Mini that he used for early puppy stuff. I met him a year or so later and he went to choke me saying "i want that minimoog back" Then he told me a great story:
ReplyDeleteThis was his first synth...he saved the money to get it and when he did he really didnt know how to use it. He took it to Cevins house and he taught him what an osc was...the rest is history
It's nice to play "deadlines" on the synth it was made with
i love SP and all but thats way to egotistical
ReplyDeleteAlthough it may seem cool to the current owner, the fact that the P5 is signed only takes away from its resale value. Most other people that would be interested in buying it would consider that a pretty big fault and take a few hundred off the price they would pay because of it.
ReplyDeleteI don't care who signed it, it's cheap vandalism of an otherwise beautiful instrument.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pair of miserable anonymous sods.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it makes you happy.
Its not being miserable, its called being honest. Reed said perfectly, its basically vandalism of a beautiful instrument.
ReplyDeleteWould you buy a Minimoog or any other piece with nice wood that someone scribbled all over with a permanent marker?
bob moog signed 600 voyagers
ReplyDeleteI think that we can agree that it it a completely different thing to have the designer sign it, than it is to have some random musician sign it. The designer signing it is the same as an artist signing his paintings. Although I am sure that there are many people that would not want anyone to sign it regardless of who it is.
ReplyDeleteI think it's cool. Not everyone buys a synth to resell. That's a rather jaded outlook, I think. My opinion is that it adds to the value subjectively (and for me) and will to certain people who dig SP and will most likely not to others. There's a bunch of *mint* P-5's for the collectors out there anyways--- just look on ebay ;-)
ReplyDeleteI was gonna say: Thing about it is, is that Bob Moog has alot more fans than SP...
ReplyDeleteBut then again I'm not even really sure of that...
F--k it...
Theres a market for everything...
Actually, after some thought, I am almost certain Bob Moog has more fans than SP...
ReplyDeleteA year ago I asked John Bowen if he's sign my Prophet-5 and he humbly declined after looking at it for a few moments. He said Dave Smith would sign it, though.
ReplyDeleteDamn It ! I'll sign it for you..just ship it to me asap.
ReplyDeleteSkinny who? Cevin? Is that a name?
ReplyDeletei'd have to say there are more SP fans than Bob fans.
ReplyDeleteand whoever made the point that not everyone looks at a synth to sell later...great point!
to the people who doesn´t know who is skinny puppy and/or cevin key, here's a link:
ReplyDeletehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skinny_Puppy
IMO one of the greatest bands ever :)
if it wernt for Skinny puppy synth sales would be MUCH less. they are TRUE pioneers, before them nobody used synths in the way they did. Myself included...
ReplyDeleteI personally dont like signed gear, BUT cevins signature or Dwaynes on a pice of history like that is great!
True Pioneer's, lol, thats why 9 out 10 synth players never heard their names..lol.. SP has a limited cult following, even my band's guitar player knows who Bob Moog was..lol..
ReplyDelete"if it wernt for Skinny puppy synth sales would be MUCH less. they are TRUE pioneers, before them nobody used synths in the way they did."
ReplyDeletePffft. Haha, this is the funniest thing I have read lately. You obviously don't know a thing about history. Most people have never even heard of skinny puppy.
"BEFORE THEM NOBODY USED SYNTHS IN THE WAY THEY DID"
Stupidest statement of the year award goes to...Yeah your right, Jarre and Vangelis and everyone else were hacks. Nobody used synths until skinny puppy came around. Please...go smoke some more crack.
Actually he is right. Listen to Warlock some time. Blew me a way. I thought something was off with my speakers or the mixing as the strings seemed to cut off. Then I realized it was meant to capture schizophrenia. Utterly brilliant. I've never heard anyone do that before them. If you have please let us know who so I can look it up. As for the signature, you can always get a new case from Synthwood. These synths are part of history. If that doesn't matter to you get another Prophet 5.
ReplyDeletematrix said it all :)
ReplyDelete"Like" "omg" they're just synthesizers. Quit worshipping the golden calf.
ReplyDeleteSkinny Puppy did some interesting things with synths, but to agree that they are responsible for synth sales and that the synth would have become obsolete without skinny puppy is ludicrous, IMO.
ReplyDeletei don't think anybody said synths would be obsolete without Skinny Puppy. And to counter the who knows who, i think MOST skinny Puppy fans wouldn't know who Bob was. And thats irrelevant. Synths, like our own bodies are there to decorate however we want...if someone likes an autograph..so be it...I'm not here to judge...nor should YOU

ReplyDeleteNow THIS is a stupid statement...did you READ the quote before you replied...I said ..."in the way that THEY did" maybe english isnt your primary language, so i won't fault you for not reading the sentence COMPLETELY. But next time maybe KNOW wht you're talking about before posting...now i'm off to smoke MORE crack.

ReplyDeleteWow, yet another ALL CAPS emphasized rant by another random anonymous internet bitch. I'm impressed. You really made your point here, son.
