How close are these things to a 303 compared to, say, an x0xb0x?
ReplyDeleteMy own acidlab bassline 1 does sound a bit different than a tb-303.
ReplyDeleteBest thing is to go to www.acidlab.de and check out the audio demos. Many full tracks, some very good ones.
By listening to many of them, you will have a good idea of how it sounds.
x0x has it beat on every front. with an upgradable (and hack-able) firmware, new features will constantly be added. the sound of an x0x is nearly indistinguishable from a 303. some say that the acidlab is a bit different; perhaps, it adds its own character to the classic 303 sound. the x0x is pure 303 though.
ReplyDeletex0xb0x is definately not pure 303.
ReplyDeleteNothing is pure 303 but pure 303, always.
x0xb0x is definately cool and a very succesful clone and is very similar to the orignal but the DIY thing throws it into, well, DIY territory which I think gives acidlab the definite edge, especially for the price point and stability and the fact that it's functionality isn't reliant upon the person who put it together. Acidlab is far more flexible and stable,... on all fronts.
All 303 clones and like devices have their own sound and variation on the classic, this is the law.
To the "unseasoned" or to those that don't view the 303 with ultimate reverence and conviction, a.k.a. anal, the differences of clones of the real thing may be, at times, to minimal to mention or notice.
But, I am more excited about the acidlab revision than using my x0xb0x.
Awesome!
ReplyDeleteSo when can we get it?
the acidlab bassline 2 should be available early august but the first batches will be sold exclusive to owners of the fist bassline only.
ReplyDeleteUgly design, looks more homebrew than a x0xb0x despite the aluminum housing and whats with the dumb name font, looks like 3ass line, and they also make a bomb ass, wtf? I bet it is overpriced too, nah give me a x0x or real 303 anyday.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks really nice
ReplyDeleteYeah really!
ReplyDeleteI would be stoked outta my gourd if my x0xb0x DIY kit came looking like this!!!
Totally don't know where that dude was coming from saying that this looked more "homebrew" than the x0xb0x.
All aluminum housing versus a plastic and aluminum housing you can find at almost any Fry's electronics store in the U.S.
Is someone perhaps just a little jealous????
x0x sounds great, but its looks leave a lot to be desired. I like the look of this one a lot more.
ReplyDeleteThe x0xb0x does not have it beat on every front... because these will be readily available and built... the x0xb0x has ridiculous wait times and then you still have to build it after waiting way too long.
