Moog FreqBox

this is more a comment about people making demos for hardware, as opposed to this video itself..
ReplyDeletewhy is it that even tho the devices obviously have a lineout we are subjected to the audio that the camera microphone can pick up.
i dont think have seen a video yet that deviates from this. sure we can hear what your saying, but often there isnt anything worth hearing..
again, not to poo poo this demo, its always good to see people doing them, just think about running a line straight into the camera.. nearly ALL cameras have a line in.
i hear ya....I think it all comes down to either laziness or lack of video editing skills / sofware / equipment... or a little of both... cause yeah, videos are cool and all, but the mics they put on video cameras weren't exactly made for capturing professional audio.

Personally, I think all synth demos should be uncompressed 1080p with 24 bit 192khz audio, with the music and 'director commentary' on different tracks.
ReplyDeleteI always record the output of the demo into a DAW and then composite everything together. Often, I'll mix in some of the original camera audio for some reason, like to hear the clack of the keys, provide a voice over or just give the illusion that I simply set up the camera and hit record.

ReplyDeletewoah dude, settle down. you ever heard of something called a "comment" or "constructive criticism??" .. and yeah, of course this stuff is free, we're on the internet. and by the way, we don't all own electronic music shops so we really don't have much need to be demoing gear on the internet to generate interest in our products (like robotspeak), so it doesn't really matter if we could do better.
With all due respect to the folks who made the video, are there any demos out there where they do something other than make bristly fart-wah sounds and gimmicky squeals, which are cool but get old in a hurry? I suspect that if you integrate the FB with other foogers or pedals or modular gear, it can do far more interesting stuff, but it probably takes more preparation than just plugging a guitar into it and quickly twisting knobs from one extreme to another. I was pretty excited about wanting to buy one, but the demos I've heard so far have made me hold off. And I agree with the comments about audio quality being more important than seeing some guy's hands twisting the knobs. YMMV
ReplyDeletemy point, about the ungrateful assholes is that some people expect everything for nothing. to complain about ANY FREE video not meeting your technical expectations is rude considering someone else put time and effort into it. you might think they're being lazy by not hooking up to a DAW, but they're a lot less lazy than you are sitting on your ass and complaining about it. so, if you think you can do better, then do it. but dont complain about free stuff.

ReplyDeleteif your camera doesnt have a mic or line in, then fine, thats just the way it is, but a large majority of video cameras, even low end consumer models will have a 1/8" mini jack ..
i didnt want to upset anyone, i was just making a passing comment on something which i see as a pretty obvious to be doing IF you were serious about making a demostration video for an AUDIO product.
Instead, you respond childishly and start crying over it.
I had expected more from Robotspeak..
and in regards to ungrateful assholes comment, as a return customer to robotspeak, buddy, you just lost yourself a customer.
