Roland Paraphonic 505

Title link takes you to shots via this auction.

"A great classic symphonic synthesizer like the type of thing Vangelis used to make the score for Bladerunner. This analog synth has three tone generator sections: bass, strings and synth. Other features include: LFO, Ensemble (chorus), VCF jack (for a pedal-controlled filter), Vibrato and keyboard splitting."

  1. This does have similar strings to the VP-330, Vangelis had one of them not the 505. Then again lots of CS-80 sounds and running most of his gear through a Lexicon 224 helped make the Blade Runner sound.

There's not a whole lot of variation on the string sound itself, then again that's typical of string synths. You also have a monosynth, bass synth, organ etc. onboard too.

  2. The VP-330 was his main string machine around that time, but I seem to recall an interview in People or some other magazine in 1982 mentioning the Paraphonic 505. I think it was the article that talked about the sequencer on the Prophet 10 breaking down.
