ReplyDeleteI used to work in a music store in Dublin and one day we got an order for one of these to be sent to U2 studios for Mr Brian Eno.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised at that because at the time it seemed to me like a machine for euro pop trance pretenders who would just ram raid the presets to make horrible cheesy pop hits (think "vengaboys" as it had a preset to do nearly every one of their sounds).
However, in this demo I can hear how it could be good for lots of things.
As with any instrument, I guess it's as much about who's using it and for what than it is about the instrument itself and I can hear lots of possibilities in this demo that makes me think it might not have been such a bad synth after all.
Wierd, grainy arpeggiations & cool, distorted aliasing pad sounds. My writing partner & I called them in the '90's asking them how to sync it up to Midi clock & they said, "Why would you want to do that?" We wound up just running it sort of at the same time as other sequencers & fixing it after the fact. Somehow it was a quriky yet inspiring tool & we made a lot of money with it in the 1990s.
