明和電機 「一番素敵な体で行こう!」

YouTube via musica95. Sent my way via Chris Muir.

"The robotic vocalist, dubbed “Seamoons,” is a combination of mechanical bellows and a computer controlled rubber vocal chord that’s monitored and modified in real time, sounding something like a tiny electric Yma Sumac."

Note the robot with a mic. The above quote is a snip from here, where you will find more info on the artist, Maywa Denki, and the tools they use. BTW, if anyone knows/finds more info on the "guitar" like devices feel free to comment.

  2. They are always electro-mechanical. I think the point is none of their sound is actually electronic. I've heard their back story is they were originally 2 brothers, one no longer particpates these days, their father ran a small electronic appliance manufacturing company, maywa denki, which folded when they were young so they revived the brand name with their own inventions. They do live performances, sometimes just disply works in art gallerys and sometimes get some of their lower cost items mass manufactured and available to consumers. Mostly toys and their fish skeleton extension power cord, nothing musical I can think of besides mechanical toy drummers. I guess they are generally in the "house of the future" tradition in terms of concept. Many simple manual tasks would instead be accomplished by mechanical means in the spirit of invention
