Buchla Music Easel. This one sent my way via vgermuse.
"Here's a little clip from the DVD Better Living Through Circuitry by Jon Reiss. The clip is of the DJ Heather Heart and has a brief but nice panning shot of what looks to be a pristine Buchla Music Easel."

More info on imdb.
If anyone has an official website for the DVD, post it in the comments and I'll update the post.
Nice One :)
ReplyDeletehey woh that chick bought me dinner in detroit!
ReplyDeleteI wish she bought me an Easel.
ReplyDeleteThe opposite of bullcrap.
ReplyDelete"just can't get that sound out of new equipment." i could really hear those buchla gates in that dance tune. IMHO that kinda of dance music often employs a very generic use of synthesis. granted i listened to a thirty seconds long but i dislike people bitching or shit talking "modern" equipment. with the exception of notable absences of waveshaping from most commerical units, low order VCF/VCA distortion from analog circuits, and aliasing in digital devices, the most glaring omission from modern units, again IMHO, is poor user interface (a function of design being geared toward players and not programmers), and lack of modulation routing, which is at it's core is what makes what sound interesting. and i know when i'm dancing, my first thought is to if the DJ is useing a real analog VCF (4-pole or 2- pole). :) good for this girl
ReplyDeleteI keep confusing her with Heather Heart the porno starlet...
ReplyDeleteThats ages ago. Sonic groove shut down since, Adam X lives in Berlin now. And Heather Heart is by no means a "synth babe" LOL. If you tell her that, she will kick you.
ReplyDeleteYea, Heather is out in California now, lol I still love her to pieces though. She spun at a couple of parties I put on "back in the day".
ReplyDeleteRegarding "synth babe" be sure to click on the tag to see what qualifies.
ReplyDelete;)
this sort of stuff makes me tired of being alive....
ReplyDeleteThat anonymous comment above is pompous. This girl was and still is well on the case. She came over to London in 92 to interview me for a very good indipendent underground electronic music magazine she was jointly running out of NYC called 'Under One Sky'. She knows her stuff matey!
