ReplyDeleteNot too tough: In FM you take a frequency at X Hz and vary it with another signal that displaces it by Y Hz. If X-Y < 0 then at some point the frequency would go negative. Oscillators which allow negative frequency instead of stopping at 0 are said to provide 'thru-zero' FM, which has a unique sound.
