Plan B makes such great modules but this has got to be some sort of anachronism if not a full blown oxymoron. How can one say with a straight face it's released when it's shipping second week of September?
ReplyDeleteI'm turned on to know important stuff like preliminary plans that user feedback might improve, finalized modules slated for the season and the actual fact that they can be bought right now. But all this fluff about announcing when a module will be announced and saying it's released but not actually shipping just makes me think about all the other modules that were announced one or more times long ago and still are not being sold. Maybe it's worth taking note that the 2 Plan B modules I own are both used. I tried to buy them new initially but that part of process wasn't well announced and I personally made up my mind from that and other experiences to only consider modules that someone has on hand and ready to ship no matter how good they seem.
Dear Tuesday:
ReplyDeleteIt's nine days away for chrissakes! Give it some time in transit to arrive at our dealers! We waited longer than Dave Smith did for the Prophet!
And unlike anything else in our catalog, we've NEVER gone this late without any mention of a module before it was in stores and Tuesday was the first time any details were released on the 11. I must say however - given I took comments made in the past on this topic into consideration with the M11 and made changes to the way we announce our goods - I'm asking you to give us some credit for that.
All of our dealers update ther stock listing immediately once they arrive. All you need to do is keep your eyes on their sites as to their availibility.
Also please keep in mind - this is the forth module we've released in three months (M11, M25, M26 and M28) and there are two others coming in very short time that we've never disclosed. The crew here is working very hard to fill our catalog and we're doing a pretty damn good job if you ask me :)

You're being a little harsh, T. Plan B is good for their word once something is announced as released. What's so wrong with mentioning it a little early to get the buzz going? All the unreleased modules on their site are listed as planned. Many of the other manufacturers announce products in advance. Peter mentioned Dave Smith. Moog with the Little Phatty and Doepfer and MOTM and Livewire, and Modcan and Macbeth. The list goes on. I agree with Peter. His production has improved, they are getting their goods out. They're releasing new ones all the time now and we should be giving all of these cottage shops our support for what they have to go through to get us these products, not our criticism. They could make a much better living doing something else. Keep it coming, Peter!
ReplyDeleteI have been to Peter's factory and his living room and his studio. It's the same room. He has a large table in it with two people working that takes up most of the room. His kitchen is his personal lab. The space where frig. should be has been replaced with shelves. Every wall in the room has a shelving unit on it. The countertop has modules ready for testing. His kitchen sink is covered with a sheet of wood with a metal punch and grinding wheel bolted to it. He made a comment that he eats out a lot because he has nowhere to wash dishes. I've not been to other shops but it's probably the same thing. These are smart and talented people who are living well below their means so we can have new toys. If they didn't all we have is bunch of dinosaur old gear that didn't work like it used to.
ReplyDeleteI heard his new filter a few weeks ago. Peter went into detail on how it worked and played it for me. I didn't understand the techinical things but I was impressed what goes into this and all the options he had tried and two he let me hear. He was really interested in which I liked best. I don't think Moog would care what I think.
I like it when they give me some notice so I can start saving up for them. Whatever it takes to make sure poeple get excited beforehand is fine.
Mot to sound like I am jumping on the bandwagon, but come on Tuesday. Are you serious? You are complaining that he has announced it a week and a half early? What about some of the other manufacturers who announced modules years ago that we still have not seen but they constantly claim are coming? I think that Plan B is one fo the best companies in this regard. They get a better percentage of products they announce to the store shelves than a lot of the other guys.
