Plan B Model 25 Now Available

"A quick note to announce that the Model 25 Multi-tasking Audio Processors will be at Analogue Haven tomorrow - Friday, August 3.

The M25 is the second swiss-army knife module in our range, the basic idea behind it to provide a series of useful synthesis functions without a hefty investment of real estate. Consisting of a Manual Attenuator (this was Tim Johnston's idea, and a great one), a dynamic VC Waveshaper, White/Pink analog Noise Generator, a Linear VCA with a separate velocity input, and a high-quality Ring Modulator which boasts over 65 dB of carrier suppression and a unique x-feedback function - all comfortably crammed into only 10HP of panel space.

More information can be found at the link below, replete with sound samples which I think are worth checking out."

The M25 will give you two different colors of analog Noise - White and Pink, and at the same time (the dedicated Noise Output is only White, so flipping the Mode switch to Waveshaper and using the main output would give you Pink simultaneously), but...it does not filter that noise to the extent to match the Random Output fitted on the A-118, nor does it produce slopped random voltages. For this you'd need a Model 24 Heisenberg and your results when using the Model 25 as a source with a sample and hold module would vary from what you've come to expect with the A-118.

    hope this helps -

  4. do other folks think that 65dB of carrier suppression is good fidelity? im quite suprised the number is so low.

  5. I tried this out and was very impressed. The Waveshaper gets a cool crunchy lo-fi kind of sound and the Ring Mod is very unique, edgy and different from other RM's I've heard in Euro. It's a must-have for me!

Actually, you might be surprised and there's a story behind this:

First, it's best to understand what carrier suppression is and how it manifests itself in a Ring Modulator. Basically it's the amount of original signal you hear at the output - apart of the SUM and DIFFERENCE frequencies. The challenge for a designer is to balance the two inputs as best as possible, thus 'balanced' modulator - finding the circuitry which will adequately temper the DC at both the x and inputs and kill as much of original frequencies from passing out the Ring. It's not as simple as it may sound and without naming names, you might be surprised how some of the RM's out there overlook this. An easy test - put in only one input, first the X, then the Y in and listen to the RM outputs for each. Hear anything? Less being best...how loud is it? The amplitude of those signals is a indication of it being in or out of balance.

I tried many circuits. The RM which was demo'd at Namm in the M25 was thrown out because of it's shortcomings in this. The one that's made to the final module is real, real good.

As far as the 65dB - this is the due to the 1496. I am beating that with the M25, and list this as a conservative spec.

    hope this helps -

  7. Since you're monitoring this thread, just wanted to express thanks for having the balls to make modules that are actually useful to modern music production.
Also wanted to say that you seem to be extremely prolific. The websites constantly being updated, new modules, new demo tunes. Definitely doing things the right way. The new programmable tap clock is killer. Love the audio demos on that one. Still planning to release the Milton someday? The rhythm expander too? I like the fact that your not shying away from digital controllers. Hopefully you'll make a module incorporating the parallax propeller someday(rev2). Or some other crazy little chip. Who knows?

If you ever need more insane ideas, call me up-I've got a million of em'. You've got my number.

  9. Guys -

I really want to thank you for your comments. You've got no idea how this helps the troops here. We do listen, we do try hard to find new and creative tools for all of us, and God knows I screw up at times in the process - but considering I usually get hammered beyond belief in these blogs, it's really nice to see this sort of commentary instead.

On behalf of crew - Brian Fedirko, Jon Bennett, Phil Gallo, Don Hassler and myself - thanks so much.

  10. Hey Peter!
That module freakin' killer!!!and I want it!!! but it shows : "email us for availlability" on AH website
    Is it already sold out??
Also yeah! I've just got the Tap Clock 2 weeks ago....hehehe awesome module innovative and I could use the term ergonomic..

    Question is:
When does the model 10, 13 and 15 (plus the extention with pots) will be availlable again? I really need them to finish the first phase of my modular...

But hey keep on doing great modules!

  11. The first increment of Model 25's was small - but i didn't get there until 1PM, I'd be surprised if they've sold out that quick. Possibly AH is doing some system work to integrate it into the online processing? I'll drop them a note and get back to you.

There will be more 25's delivered to them, the balance of their initial order in the next week, along with a small quantity of 10's 12 and 13's. We did deliver a Model 14 today along with the 25's.

Here's the deal: Brian is currently in a recording project for a large musical (which includes Paris Hilton btw!), so his hours here are starting to decrease temporarily. Jon Bennet is back seeing his folks in DC and will return a week from Monday. I spoke to a past employee of mine from M&K Sound this afternoon, and he may be coming in a couple of days a week now.

The plan is to have Brian here every minute he can spare (hi, Brian!) - Jon on M/W/F and Sam (ex of M&K) on T/TH.

Why am I telling you this?

Because since Jon flew off last Friday, I've been here on my own and things are obviously not going to flow as quickly - but we'll be back to our schedule real soon.

We've got another couple of dozen Model 15's, a large quantity of 15A's and five or so Model 24's to deliver to AH to complete existing open orders and are currently discussing a another one to begin as soon as those are completed. In that timeframe there will be a delivery to Schnieder's Beuro a well.

However, I believe Mesi and Elby Designs currently have inventory of various products. Give them a shout - they are both really good dealers who are 100% behind the analog effort.

I'll get back to you guys on the M25 at AH as soon as possible.

  12. I love PB! very *very* cool, mon! ya know what? Dave Smith returns calls (!!!) how cool is that? It takes a special kinda person to design electronics IMHO

  13. Indeed I think AH put it as availlable shortly after I've expressed my fear this would be sold out in less than a day LOL But thanks for the quick anwser for the M10, 13, 15 and 24... you gotta understand that I will stop working full time pretty soon cuz I'm starting a degree in Electroacoustic studies so I'm kinda nervous to finish my modular rig before the incomes will be lowered by half hahahah!! cheers from Montréal y'all!
