  1. So it's official - this guy is selling SID NUXX's commercially. Go get him!

  2. I guess I fail to see the harm in this. I mean, it doesn't seem like he's price gouging for these. I know it's supposed to be "open source", but Elektron used to make a similar product, which I would still like to own. Well, Elektron decided to stop making the SID Station supposedly due to the lack of SID chips. Well where are these chips coming from? I have neither the time, tools or experience with electronics to build one of these from a kit. But riddle me this Batman: If I had paid for the parts and I paid a capable friend to build it for me, would my friend be in violation for charging me to build it?

    ReplyDelete
  3. It's inevitable. There's a strong demand an not everybody has the time (or skill) to build one. The designer at http://www.ucapps.de/midibox_sid.html should just wise-up and make a little money himself.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I seriosly hope the midibox community comes down on this guy. Building them for people is one thing, but this guy is clearly profiting a GREAT deal (last one sold ofr over 500 dollars!) from using the Nuxx design. Steve should send this guy a cease and desist notice immediately!!! It is extremely clear on his NUXX website that these boards should NOT be used to commercially produce these for profit. This greenlantern guy is scum.

    ReplyDelete
  5. This seller is a douche bag. How can he justify what he is doing? I think we all let it slide when he sold the first one on ebay to see if he would try to sell another one, but as the first poster said, it is pretty clear now that he is commercially selling these now. Everyone should report this auction to ebay!! This guy needs to be stopped.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Sidstation is not midibox

    ReplyDelete
  7. You guys also need to realize that this ebay seller has a VERY BAD reputation with the midibox community and this is not the first or second or third, etc. midibox that he has sold or tried to sell. He does this repeatedly against the wishes of both TK and Steve (from NUXX) This asshole is the scum of the earth.

Matrix really needs to stop promoting this guys auctions. It comes off as almost condoning and supporting this guy. Matrix is just helping to make this guy more money.

To anonymous #2: If you had a friend build one for you and gave him a couple bucks for his time, that is perfectly fine. Now, if you and your friend used the designs to mass produce them with the sole intent to resell them for a profit, that is NOT acceptable. This is what this ebay seller is and has been doing for some time.

    ReplyDelete
  8. He is also commercially selling Ray Wilsons (MFOS) designs without permission as well. Jeez, this guy is ridiculous. Someone should just keep putting in $10000 bids on all of his auctions and not pay. And I completely agree, Matrix should stop promoting this guys auctions (both sid and MFOS stuff) and helping his shady business of selling other peoples designs.

    ReplyDelete
  9. You'd think if he was going to "professionally" build this stuff, he would at least put some effort into the casing. 2x4 sections with a sheet of acrylic screwed into it. This crap looks like a high school shop project.

I second the earlier comments- this guy's a total douche, and matrix should stop promoting his crap. Going a step further, it would be better if he added warnings about it to the front page (as he has with other shady dealer auctions).

    ReplyDelete
  10. I don't know, I have seen some nice stuff come out of high school shop classes. This looks more like a middle-school shop project. lol

    ReplyDelete
  11. No problem. I updated the post to get people to look at the comments.

So the next question is do you want me to put his auctions up to expose what he is doing or not put them up at all? If I don't put them up then he effectively can slide under the radar. If I do put them up you can comment away and I can update the post for others to look at the comment.

I put them up for the shots and interesting bits of synth history.

BTW, I rarely pay attention to the person listing the gear for this reason and I have a horrible memory with this stuff, so I will be relying on others to comment and call this stuff out. If enough people do and it is clearly a legit complaint I will of course update the post.

    ReplyDelete
  12. It's not like those demos are going to get him many sales.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The guy who designed the Nuxx pcb recently sold a xoxox kit>
    "x0xb0x #496 For Auction

Hey there... In case any of you are interested, I've listed x0xb0x #496 for auction. If you are interested, it is auction number 290151976614.

If any of you know anyone who might be interested in this, please do share. Thanks!"

So there is a bit of hypocracy here. I understand about the IP stuff, but essentially this is the same thing. And don't say Consumer did not make a profit. The kit is 300.

What constitutes mass production also? 100 units or 2 to 3?

Ray wilson usually let's people sell Sound Labs also, Elba Design sells them.

    ReplyDelete
  14. very good point, the last one..

    ReplyDelete
  15. Matrixsynth=Everything Synth..dont kill the messenger! TK can hire a lawyer if he wants.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yeah I agree, MatrixSynth blog is a neutral literally "Everything synth", be it good or bad. It should not all of the sudden take sides or protect anyone, It just reports what's synth out there.
Yeah nice point about Consumer, i saw his xoxbox too on ebay. All of a sudden someone sells 1 of his and it's the end of MatrixSynth posting?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Chill out fanboys, nobody is mad at matrix here or blaming him for this guys actions, just suggesting that he not help promote any more of this particular guys auctions. Thats it. It is not consumer doing all of the bitching, most of it is coming from us, the members of the midibox community that are disgusted with clowns like this blue lantern guy going against the entire spirit (and the stated rules) of the midibox project. If you take the time to look at the comments here consumer has not even made a comment about it in this thread. All the comments are from angry and/or annoyed midiboxers.

    ReplyDelete
  18. If the Midibox community is so enthusiastic about busting these guys, donate some money to TK over at www.ucapps.de to get him a lawyer. MIOS is excellent, if I had the time I'd build a MB64 or MBseq and SID. It'll help him alot more than posting anonymous comments if you donate some $$$ though. Dont get Matrixsynth blog in the middle of it, most of us enjoy reading everything synth be it good or bad. No one complains when an xoxbox is sold either..wtf??

    ReplyDelete
  19. Everyones ready to report this guy to TK and Nuxx, noone probably noticed this but the Consumer guy who just sold the Xoxbox on ebay has the audioclips of the xoxbox in the auction stored on the nuxx site. So if yall wanna point fingers and be TK and Nuxx watchdog, think first, doesnt those links being stored on the Nuxx site make ya go HMMMMM?? Yall need to get a job working for waves busting ppl for cracked plugins...oh wait.. this just in..BT is hiring, he wants someone to get his gear back!

    ReplyDelete
  20. You're missing the point or just choosing to ignore it. This guy has repeatedly sold other peoples designs on ebay including Nuxx, TK, Ray Wilson (MFOS) all without permission knowing full well that sort of thing is not permitted. Have you even read any of the peoples comments? Nobody has blasted or blamed matrix, why do you feel the need to act like someone did?

XOXBOX does not specifically state that their product should NEVER under any circumstances be resold commercially or at all, MFOS and ucapps do, so you're point is invalid. And to the person who mentioned Laurie and Elby designs selling MFOS, that is also completely different because Laurie had Rays expressed written permission to do what he does, this guy on ebay does not have anyones permission he took it upon himself to try to profit of of other peoples work without even talking to them about it.

Telling me that I have no right to voice my opinion and that I should instead send TK thousand of dollars for attorneys if a completely ludicrous statement.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Inteliko, let me see if I understand your arguement. You are saying that because someone else may have gotten away with something that it is OK for everyone to break the rules? So if you rob a house and get arrested you are the kind of kid who argues that "everyone else is doin it, so why can't I?" That is a very juvenile attitude to take. You sound like the same type of person that argues why it is OK to steal mp3s and shoplift.

    ReplyDelete
  22. "Nobody has blasted or blamed matrix, why do you feel the need to act like someone did?"

Im not blasting anyone either, if you all got together and put $15 a piece you can probably crucify your enemy and be happy midibox commandos.

"XOXBOX does not specifically state that their product should NEVER under any circumstances be resold commercially or at all, MFOS and ucapps do, so you're point is invalid.

Its funny how some sound like a bunch of Girls whinig about this topic, while the real lady(LadyADA) doesnt whine at all. In fact I think Ill jump on the bandwagon and sell Xoxboxes for double also, just like the dude who mysteriously has those xox box clips stored on the Nuxx site. A simple disclaimer isnt crucifing Nuxx who probably sold that XOXbox as consumer.

"Telling me that I have no right to voice my opinion"

Where did I say this? If yall wanna crucify this guy make some midibox history and donate some Money to TK.

    ReplyDelete
  23. i'm gonna walk across the street and tell blue lantern to read this blog.. he has no idea... hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  24. So since you did not respond to my post and made the same argument again, I assume that your position is infact that if one person slips by and does not get caught breaking the rules that means that everybody has the right to break the rules. I won;t even waste my time making follow up post since it is obvious that you are completely missing the entire point of what people here have been arguing.

    ReplyDelete
  25. i just told liquid blue lantern got put on blast by the court of the synth geek meritocracy...

    ReplyDelete
  26. 1.Yall are very enthusiastic toward Midiboxes, obviously.

    2.Actions speaks louder than words.

    3.Money talks...

    4. I'd be ticked if I was Thorsten also, please realize though if you leave something in the open it will eventually get stolen, this is a fact of life. I dont agree with the guy selling them either. Just dont get Matrix involved.

    5. "You sound like the same type of person that argues why it is OK to steal mp3s and shoplift."

I dont agree with shoplifting, I buy CD's also.

    ReplyDelete
  27. To blue lantern's buddy: I have been to a few sites over the past couple days and it is not just these anonymous posters on the matrix blog that are annoyed and arguing. There are threads about this guy (blue_lantern) and what he is doing on several different forums across the internet.

    ReplyDelete
  28. "Yall are very enthusiastic toward Midiboxes, obviously."

This is true, but the midibox community is like any tight knit community and doesn't take kindly when an outsider blatanly steps up and violates all of the rules of said community. I don't really think that anyone is trying to get matrix involved personally. Like most posts that he makes, there are bound to be both positive and negative comments. I also understand that things often times get stolen, but that does not make it right, no?

    ReplyDelete
  29. oh believe me, he's not my buddy.. i just happen to know his brother and connected him to this whole issue in a very obtuse way.. i actually had no idea... as a HUGE supporter of Brian Crabtree + Freinds over at monome.org. In fact i'm gonna bring up the ethics of his dealings later tonight with him... like i said, we both live in the hood, where "hustling" is a very real and necessary thing, especially with an expensive enterprise such as hardware EM production...

    ReplyDelete
  30. so a completely different world view is at play when it comes to ethics..not that that excuses anyone...

    ReplyDelete
  31. I just re-read your post sorry If I didnt jump straight to your point. I dont agree with this guy selling em, but your missing the big picture. Thorsten claims MIOS is protected, but noone has ever taken any action which shows all bark and no bite. Last I checked on the midibox forums beside createing a special thread on asking permision first no action has been taken. The only action that matters is legal action. Donate a few dollars...strength in numbers..its just a suggestion.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I understand your point. If you read the thread about this on the midibox forum you will see that Nuxx (consumer) did try to take action and file all of the proper paperwork with ebay as well as ask the guy personally to stop selling them. Ebay refused to take any action. Since the board design in this sid is Nuxxs' he has to be the one to file any complaints against this guy, not Thorsten. And I think the reason there has never been any legal action in the past is because there was never any need. There is the thread that you mentioned, and most people abide by whatever desision that Thorsten makes regarding the sale. If you look through that same thread you will see that at one point the Nuxx PCB was going to be professionaly manufactured and offered for sale along with kits, but TK eventually changed his mind and consumer did abide by that desision and no boards or kits were ever commercially sold.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I happen to know blue_lantern also, Ray wilson did give permission for him to sell the Sound Labs, email him personally if you don't believe it. As far as the SID's he is done with them, just getting rid of last.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Then why instead of just putting up a post explaining his actions he has ignored all request to stop selling the midiboxes and he also changed his screen name on several forums to try to avoid detection. Seems a bit strange for someone who thinks he has done nothing wrong, huh? His actions today only prove that he does know it is wrong and is trying to cover up his ID.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hey anon @5:41,you said:

"As far as the SID's he is done with them, just getting rid of last."

If this guy was really just getting rid of his last midibox, then why would he be bidding on more SID chips as we speak? Auction #200144257229. This guy has no intentions to quit selling them. You don't need to try to defend him.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Haha, damn we got some detectives around here! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  37. What a bunch of cry babies, lol, some of you guys need to get a grip, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  38. sorry losers but i'm biddin on this bad boy.

    ReplyDelete
  39. These guys sound like the Beerfest German Team, "You donot speak of Beerfest to anyone!" Lol! "vwhy dont jyou lourn to solder, little girlie man!" (trying to do the beerfest accent)
This has to be the funniest blog ever here.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Haha, Isn't the internet a lovely place?

    ReplyDelete
  41. You cannot produce an item for sale with the caveat that it not be resold unless it has some kind of State or Federal control, such as items made by a Class II firearms manufacturer.

PCBs are not made by magical angels from outer space. If you buy his board and you have half a brain, you can reproduce it without too much trouble. The only real control (as it has been mentioned) is for him to carefully choose who he sells them to. Even then it is a crapshoot and utterly unenforceable from a legal standpoint.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Nobody involved with midibox sold blue_lantern any PCBs!!!
He downloaded the Eagle files fron the Nuxx website before they were removed and sent them off to a PCB house to get them manufactured himself. So even though I see your point, it is not relevent in this case

    ReplyDelete
  43. This guy is no worse than Behringer, who is yet to be sucessfully sued for their blatant copycats.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I saw 44 comments and thought 'wow this must be good' but it seems it is not good, and indeed, bad.

    ReplyDelete
  45. the guy is filling a void, since no one else is making anything like this. It appears that some of these folks just want to keep these things within their small circle so to speak. Hats off to this guy for making the SID available to someone outside the SID clique.

    ReplyDelete
  46. The last anon, your comment was retarded. So if I break into your house and rob you it is OK because I am "just filling a void" to people who don't own the things you do? Pfft, get real.

Like someone said earlier in the thread, you're probably the type who tries to argue how stealing mp3s is OK and hurts nobody.

    ReplyDelete
  47. it's all too subjective, the designs were posted for the whole world to see. it's not like the guy hacked into someones files to obtain them. How you compare this to someone breaking into a house is retarded. Your analogy is flawed and irrelevant. Why is the SID cult so anal about these little synths anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  48. why doesn't someone offer these fs commercialy, on the level, no infringements, and put and end to the piracy. If you could buy this stuff outright it wouldn't create the percieved black market demand that is being exploited.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Why don't you kids just learn to solder and build them yourself and quit complaing about all the poor souls who don't have access to a midibox. All it takes to have one is basic soldering skills and, voila, you suddenly DO have access to one. You sound like all the lazy kids today. You want someone else to do everything for you. Doing things for yourself is a rewarding experience, something todays younger generation seems to have never learned. Well, that and ethics obviously.

    ReplyDelete
  50. sorry to upset you grandpa

    ReplyDelete
  51. Its OK, I'll just go over to my rocking chair and rock myself to sleep. LOL. I'm sure that you understand the point I was making though, right? Before when things that we wanted weren't commercially available, we studied and learned how to make our own, these days nobody seems to want to do that anymore, they want if all handed to them on a silver platter.

    ReplyDelete
  52. And the funniest thing is, that you would not even have to really learn anything besides soldering to build a midibox because it is all spelled out for you right on the website, and kits are also available, so there is really no excuse to not build your own except out of sheer laziness, ya know?

    ReplyDelete
  53. OMG 53 comments? Some people need to get a LIFE.

    ReplyDelete
  54. your pointless comment makes it 54 lol

  55. This is one of the most ridiculous blogs I have ever read. You guys need to leave your rooms more instead of playing with your toys.

  57. "This is one of the most ridiculous blogs I have ever read. You guys need to leave your rooms more instead of playing with your toys."

And yet you continue to read it and you also feel the need to comment while sitting in your room playing with your computer. I have one word for you, sir:
    Hypocrite
    ;)

    ReplyDelete
  58. All of the above.

    Yes!

    I agree.

And if you redraw the board art, it's yours fair and square.

And if I redraw the board art and I add the words "Made In China," and it isn't, is that legal?

  68. Whats the deal with teh guy who won this? He also won AND paid for the other one that blue lantern sold. What is he planning to try to reverse enginner it and sell these himself? If so, I wonder if he realized that this was all stuff that was freely available on the internet for anyone to see, he didn't have to spned over $1000 on these shoddy crappily build pieces of shit that blue lantern builds. Like someone else said, they llok like middle school shop projects. At least put a little effort into it.

  70. Hi all,I almost bought a blue lantern special for $255..I decied against it when i won a Yamaha AN1x instead for $240 after shipping.I want to build my own sid synth like the RFEX QuadraSid 1.6.0 but in HARDWARE form inside my PIANO...not that crap box!I want a P4 based PC LCD screen computer inside the piano for sequencing and audio as well as the softsynths...but..the hardware version of quadrasid 1.6.0.This is also why I bought the Yamaha An1x..to mimic the NI FM8 softsynth...Seems a hardware combo of Yamaha AN1x,RM1x,AN200 and DX200 would get me that FM8 in HARD!Now that you guys know MY plan..what can you suggest about a QuadraSIDsynth in HARDWARE form?I saw the elektron monomachine and machine drum..the $2300 or more prices are too high and only wealthy people can afford those.I am poor..I have to spend about $250 max for the sidbox/guts.That is why I almost bought that guy's box on ebay..Something told me not to bother though..so any help on getting my own synth kit and built would be steller! Thanks.
