  1. I saw something similar for the c64 (very long time ago) with the same like screen, but it was on tape then, but can not remember the siel logo on screen.

  2. for the same money you can get the prophet64 cartridge which IMHO seems to be much better

  3. I've never seen one by Siel but several software companies made a program to help play the SID chip. I have a program by someone else that does the same thing only it came with a 4 ocatve keyboard connected to a cartridge (no MIDI). The problem with manually playing the SID chip is the output is real noisy and hummy when there is no note playing. I'm sure if you had a sequencer operating it you could just fill up all the quiet space or perhaps mess with a noise gate and EQ but in general it's tough to push it from doing game sound which it's quite capable of into being a synth.

  5. That software came with a SIEL MIDI controller keyboard, about 3 octaves. Like the world of next tuesday suggested, connected to the joystick port with a custom wired-to-keyboard cartridge.

We've got one in the cupboard over at my friend's place. Looks like it might be time to sell it up!

  6. I remember the SIEL package and remember wanting it badly when I had my C64. The best I could manage was the Music Maker add on which consisted of a 61 note keyboard, an FM Expander cartridge and some tweaking software. I never really liked it that much and preferred to use Electrosound, a simple 3 track sequencer. I also remember there being a keyboard overlay that sat atop the C64 with something like 25 mini piano keys that pressed on the regular QWERTY keyboard.

It was all abandoned when I upgraded to the Atari ST.

As Loscha says, I may have to dig out the FM expander and keyboard and see if I can turn it into cash to use elsewhere ;o)
