Title link takes you to the Flickr set. It also looks like the price for the first run will be GBP 599 with free shipping, and will be a limited run in the UK. A straight conversion to USD would be approximately 1,200. The main production run should of course be less. Hopefully they will adjust the price down to something much more reasonable in the US. The unit will also run on double A batteries so one less wire to worry about.

Saw it on Gizmodo, with links to youtube video. OMG, DROOL, WANT!
ReplyDeleteThe ultimate trip-time toy. Can't wait!
BTW, here's the link to youtube vid

Thanks. I put it up.
ReplyDeleteThe $1200 pricing puts it in the same ballpark as a 256 switch Monome. I know they're not really the same thing, but the hardware is certainly close enough to compare costs (case, gobs of switches & LEDs, CPU, etc.)
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing what Tenori-on can do, but also wonder how soon there will be Monome apps that cover the same ground.
and the official website:

Wasn't it said that this has engine or sounds of the Motif to a degree?
ReplyDeleteAnyone have details on the sequencer? Does the sequencer output MIDI?
If you're referring to my essay, I was merely speculating about what sort of computer software may or may not be included with the Tenori-On, and I cited the Motif engine so one could have a concrete example of what a sound editor may look like.
ReplyDeleteI have no reason to believe the Tenori-On engine is derived from the Motif other than the fact it is a Yamaha product.
uh, what essay? o-o
ReplyDeletemaybe... ?
It was quite a few months ago when the product was first announced. I recall hearing something it possibly having a motif based XG engine perhaps or something along those lines.
I remember that as well. It was in the vid demo at the last NAMM. The guy showing it off said it had Motif sounds... afair
ReplyDeleteWow. Good guess, then.
ReplyDeleteI hope I'm wrong about the rest.
I'm somehow doubting this will ever reach mass production, unfortunately. I just don't see it getting the support it would need with this concept at this price.
ReplyDeleteAnd success still depends on how well this thing plays with others. Can't tell from the demos.
you won't see those kind of product design info often!!!!!
ReplyDeletegood thing those starts to come.
Maybe is related to the opensource competitor, monome?
I think that somewhere in time, someone will hack the firmware and there you go.....
