Something I've been curious about but haven't asked because I know where thise conversations can end up, is... can each version of the virus cover the previous virus 100% in sound and character. I know it can in regards to the specs. I'm wondering if there is a difference in character. I've heard the original Virus sounds a bit more raw - is this true or just rumor? I heard the Nord Lead 2x sounds cleaner than the original Nord Lead for example, and that has been confirmed due to different DACs. If anyone has been able to actually A/B the different versions of Virus, please feel free to comment.
I've A/B'ed my friend's Virus C and my KB with the same patches (from a B; the other way around could make all kinds of differences). I feel like the filters on the C are slightly more aggressive. The KB seems to have a slightly more generally rough sound, and somewhat more round-ish. More of a low-midrange 'thonk' I guess. They are very similar, though. The differences are fairly minute.
ReplyDeleteThis was only a brief A/B'ing, so don't judge too harshly. On a non-sound note, the keyboard on the KB is fantastic. It just feels great to play.
My TI played all of my C patches pretty much perfectly. I was very impressed. Overall I think the TI sounds creamier than the C though.
ReplyDeleteI A/B'd and Indigo I and my Ti when i was beta testing for Access.

I sold the Ti, pocketed a grand, and bough the Indigo... the audio stage is much dirtier, crunchier and raw.
The Ti is quintessential virus, however... as earlier poster said....creamier with higher resolution, but not nearly as venomous as the original redback, or the Indigo I.
