"Vintage Crumar DS-2 Synthesizer. One of the first dual DCO analog synths, with a poly section as well."
Anyone confirm these are DCOs and not VCOs?

Yep, DCO's alright.
ReplyDeleteOne of my first synths. Didn't sound all that great, imho...
It says "Digital controlled" on the front panel, so I'd guess that's what they are.
ReplyDeleteWhen discussing VCO vs. DCO I allways refer to that post on Analog Heaven in April 1995 by Jürgen Haible

Based on the block diagram of the DS-2 and it´s heritage, it is designed by the same guy who desinged the Crumar Bit Series and the Elka Synthex, the DS-2 uses a DCO design which was listed in [1] under
9) Staircase Waveform stuff (as described in different recent mails)
Unfortunately I have no DS-2 at hand and the schematics available online are missing lot´s of pages.
The DCOs on the Synthex and even those on the Bit sound great, those of the Bit have a very special touch to them.
