DSI Prophet '08

The first Prophet '08 listed on the bay. Unfortunately just a stock shot.

BTW, word is that there is one at the LA Guitar Center. If you get a chance to try it out, post back with your impressions.

Details from the auction (why 3 adapter?):
"I purchased this DSI Prophet 08 directly from Dave. I ordered it 4 weeks ago and forgot about it and it showed up yesterday on my doorstep(09/05/2007.) Things have changed in the last four weeks and I need to sell it for lack of space and want of money. I paid $1999 plus tax here in CA and shipping. Since I played it for 10 minutes and I letting it go for $1975 with free shipping in the USA(lower 48.) My gear lust is your gain.

Auction Includes: The new Prophet 08, the universal power supply(100V to 240V) with three(3) adapters, the manual and box and packaging."

  2. Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Waldorf does this as well.

  3. I was in guitar center LA on saturday and noticed the prophet 08 - got it fired up and ran through some presets quickly. I thought it sounded wicked - there were lots of stereo panning that I hadn't noticed in the demos - and grabbing the filter cutoff and resonance for tweaking was sweet. Although I only spent 15 minutes on it and I already own a memorymoog, obxa, and cs80 I still want one because this sounds different than any of them.

    thanks dave!!

  4. This auction sounds shady to me. Why would you buy a synth you didn't have space for. How could you "forget" you ordered such a thing? I don't know about y'all, but If I paid for one of these I'd be camping on my doorstep for 4 weeks waiting for it to show up. I'd also have to be in SERIOUS dire financial need to want to sell such a beauty and live in a broom closet to "not have any space" for it. I'd FIND the space. Finally, where are the real shots of this thing sitting in your house? Stock internet shots on the Bay are kinda dodgy in my book.

  5. I'm thinking the same thing, Anon...how on earth could you "forget" that you ordered this thing?? It's only like the most coveted synth of the moment.

  6. A little fishy without a pic.
But, credit card + alcohol or benzos can make one do some regretful things on Ebay.

  7. some people are compulsive gear whores, that's how they end up with all this crap. Whoever this person is the photos for their other auctions show the same set of stairs in the background, so I'd think it's probably laziness on their part to put up the stock photo. You'd think that they could at least have a box photo though. The only thing I question is how in the heck did he order it 4 weeks ago? Wasn't it just released and acknowledged publicly as existing in the last 2 weeks?

  8. october 71: I clearly (actually, quite blurily) remember purchasing sports memorabilia at a live ebay estate auction few years back. I was so hammered that I clicked "bid" button several times without realizing that instead of bidding on Genelec sub, I was bidding on Colts owner-signed helmet, some game balls from Colts - Cowboys game and some unknown team-signed soccer ball. I now have $1200 worth of memorabilia dusting away on a shelf... Oh, the fun of doing serious drinking and ebaying!

Personally, I'd ask for some photo shots and ask the seller to send shots of him playing some chords to prove he had the synth.

no proof, no sale. Tho, I'm holding out my extra $500 for Red Edition, tho...

p.s. I've bought few things on a whim few times and had to sell them. I guess it may have not struck a chord with him (ha! gittit? :-) lulz)

  9. zeroc001: I can understand your story, but "forgetting" you bought an expensive synthesizer that happens to be very sought after right now? Sorry, I don't buy it (no pun intended).

  10. I went for the SE after calling them up. Plus I owe it to Chuck anyway. Sweetwater claims they're getting a shipment in on the 14th but wouldn't say how many or even if my order was going to be filled at that time. I understand them being secretive about sales numbers, but I cancelled my 'pre-order' with them to go for a bird in hand... and its not that I'm super impatient, its just that I have a VACATION SCHEDULE to adhere to and I'd hate it if the P'08 wasn't there too.

  11. So far both the GC in hollywood and the Sam Ash across the street got the Pro-08. I got a chance to sit down on the one at Sam Ash, and all that did was make me want one more. I've been saving up for a Liberation, but i think i might have to buy this now. If only dave decided to make the Keytar attachment again!

  12. Looks like he has two more non-stock photos now with the keyboard deployed.
