    They hates us, they do!

I think the iPod touch is more than powerful enough to deal with MIDI over USB. You have to remeber that MIDI was designed to work well at low bit rates with slow processors. The question is will apple be the one that opens up to developers or will it be someone else to capitalize on the technology and free development from OpenSourcers.

  4. Well, there's already this kind of stuff for the (old) iPod:

But, yeah, the iTouch/Third party/blah blah...

Although I've heard of folks getting the iTouch to send OSC messages thru USB which can then (fairly) simply be converted to midi using something like PD or ChucK.

So iTouch as midi controller is pretty much already doable.

  5. Every time I see an iPod Touch (or iPhone), I get a strange desire to insert it (well, really, have someone else insert it) into the goatse.

  6. On topic, there is the MAX/MSP Flashserver external, so you could just use that to build really direct apple touch experiences simply.

  9. there are already a lot of third-party apps for the iphone, so i assume for the itouch as well. yeah, you're not "supposed" to put them on there, and apple will half-heartedly kill these things with their software updates, but as soon as they're disabled new versions are released five minutes later that work again. so whatever can be done with these things probably will.
