  1. Finally, the tools to make good banjo sounds! ;)

Presenting your basic multi-mode VCF, ladies and gents.

    Will it self-oscillate?

  2. Talk about bare-bones.

  3. Nice of you to have a little something explaining what the JP stood for in the blog post below it because I was going to ask.

Looking nicer and more complete every day. Whats left?

  4. "meh?"

    stop impersonating me!

    meh ...

    jp patches the clown?

  6. I hope it's PAiA like and doesn't self oscillate.

My fave filter right now is a passive LC filter. It only weighs 30 or so pounds and isn't very modular. But it's nice to have a filter that doesn't self oscillate.

  7. When I saw the first module I was nonplussed by the curious panel design. But after the explanation a few posts back about the standard layout, keeping costs down, etc., I am really starting to dig the possibilites.

It will be awesome to have a middle-ground choice between semi-modulars & patchable DIY boxes on one side, and huge honking room fillers on the other.

So... I've been letting my imagination run wild a bit; please excuse a few left-field questions:

Do the modules have enough clearance behind the panel that you could mount two panels at a 120° angle to each other? What about 90°?

Are all the panels the same under the graphics -- 16 1/4" holes?

Will you sell the modules without panels?

A couple of posts ago it was mentioned that the fixed arrangement of panel components allowed the modules to use a standard connection method to the PCB. Could a DIY'er come up with a modded version of that connection, sub in normalled jacks, and wire up a normalled patch routing behind the panel? Having a pre-patched architecture would really leverage the tidyness of the system. (Modular heresy, I know.)

  8. Oh yeah, and when do we get to hear samples? ;)

  9. According to George, meh means matrix eats ham, so every time you see meh it means I have to eat some ham, so stop already. meh. Hmmm... What about wine? mew, mew.

  11. Mr. Mattson mentioned a few modules back that he will be out of town Saturday getting sound clips

  12. I've read most of them, but it's hard to keep up! Not to mention finding the meat among the "meh"-ing. Thanks, I'll go back and see what I missed.

    ReplyDelete
  13. So if I say "meh" can I have some ham too? I'm really hungry right now...too many beers. lol

    If so, meh, meh, meh..

  14. PS would that be mdw, unless you have some rancid coagulated wine! lol

  15. Regarding JP Patches, now that was pretty funny. He was a clown (literally) up here in the Pacific NW on local TV. I actually met him about 10 years back at a local bar. I think the bar was The Rendevous in Seattle, which at the time had an interesting mix of clientele. Back then, the Rendevous, the Night Lite and the Frontier Room were about it.

Here's some pics of JP: link.

  16. Terrible idea of having a switch for the modes.

A switch is more expensive than 3 jacks! There is room to the right of the resonance control for 3 output jacks for the different modes. Give us the mode outputs so we can use them with the mixer and inverter. Please!!!!!

  17. "PS would that be mdw, unless you have some rancid coagulated wine! lol"

: ) Yeah, I decided to go with the whole catsynth thing.

LOL, now you better mail me a ham, dammit! I'm gonna starve ta death.

  19. Mr. Patchell was very gracious to design this filter exclusively for this project. I wanted to have 3 independent mode outs also. But, the way he designed the cells makes it virtually impossible. I'm still studying the possibility. But, for now, I have to present it this way. Either way, it sounds awesome.

  20. matrix, you're in the pacific northwest? i've been reading this blog for two years and the whole time i thought you were british.

  21. Ok, as long as separate outputs had been considered. I thought perhaps that the outputs may have just been taps at various point like some other SVFs. Thats cool. I'm sure it sounds nice!

  22. uh guys, realize "meh" has stubby fingers and so obese he probably won't make it to 30. so anything "mini" clearly incites rage. hang on, he'll be gone soon enough. kinda said as he wasn't dumb, just stupid.... let the gators feed on him.

    ReplyDelete
  23. slim, compared to the real "meh" about 100 less i'd guess.
and past 30..the real one probably won't hurdle that... all dem gator farms down der.

    ReplyDelete
  24. "realize "meh" has stubby fingers"

    hence the lack of "knobs"

    ReplyDelete
  25. ok, well they look nice.

now is it time for some sounds yet???

oh yeah, i figured it out...the knob is on the fuse holder

    or perhaps not...

  29. Yes, but how does it sooooounnnd, hMMM?

Wasn't sure about the marketing gimmick at first, but I'm digging the concept. It's not what it does, but how it does what it does.

Looking forward to listening to some samples...

  30. Surprise! They're all digital! yeeay!

  31. We're getting the sound samples Saturday night and will post them when they're done.
