  1. Beautiful system. I would love to play with a serge sometimes but they are very rare in europe.

  2. Oh to be rich again.
    (heavy sigh)
Any guesses as to how much this baby will go for???

  3. I'd buy that for a dollar :-)

  4. I think even $13.5k would be pushing it. The older systems can be a maintenance nightmare and in my opinion are worth a fraction of the STS panels. But what do I know, I only have 15 panels.

  5. Thanks for the stab at it, R.
I was thinkin' 20k or there abouts.
But I'm in love so ....
Anyone have any idea what that baby blue box is poking it's corner into the frame at the bottom?
Looks Orban-ish but I can't tell fer sure.

  6. Holy futz! Imagine if your kitty has an upset tummy and takes a poop on that right in the middle, that'd be some serious cleanup work. That said I'd want a kitty repeller module built in to prevent such a tragedy or I'm not giving you a dollar.

    Meow!

  8. yes, retro, we know how many panels you have.
also, is this for sale? what's the story behind this picture? where can I get one of those cases, anymore?

  9. This looks very similar to Kevin Braheny's system "The Mighty Serge." I think that his system was also used by Michael Stearns. Interesting.

  10. hmm... I was estimating closer to $30k for this one. Does the retro aspect contribute or detract from the value?

  11. Peter G is assisting in the sale for a friend. The unit is in LA. It was described as a 12 panel system but I wouldn't count the VU meter and output panel as a whole panel (more like a $400 panel) and I'm not sure how useful the comb filter panel is or the second panel of ADSRs. Buyers should be aware that the TKB will need to have some modifcations reversed if they hope to use it as a normal TKB. And again, I've seen a several paper panel systems and the quality isn't as good as Rex's STS panels.

Buying a modular system this old is sort of like buying a vintage recording console. Components start to get crufty and they require a lot of work to keep running.

Would I laugh at someone paying $20k for this system? No. Would I commend the buyer if they were wise and spent $13-15k on the system and then $5k on a goog tech to clean it up. Absolutely.

  13. Im not so sure about that re old TKB. I have a paperplate version and got Ken Stone to look at it because I was thinking about adding the newer stuff to make it like the new TKB, and mine at least had everything inside the new ones have, you just need to patch it differently

  14. I want to see a Serge system with regular jacks and some multiples ( or erherm fnar, buffers buffers, Mattson buffers ;)
    Is that sacrilege?

    ReplyDelete
  15. there is a serge module that is for this type of buffering already - Scaling Buffers. it has other features for this application as well. also there are other modules that can be used this way.
