Synthesizers.com Spring Reverb

"This is a one-of-a-kind synth module--a Synthesizers.com spring reverb built into a Blacet / PAiA / Frac Rack sized faceplate. I did the conversion myself. The module began life as a Dotcom Q115, and no changes whatsoever have been made to anything except the faceplate. The legending is just a couple of inkjet-printed stickers; the two knobs control drive and wet/dry mix. The item comes with the original three-spring reverb tank, two RCA cables to hook it up, mounting screws, and a special Dotcom-to-Blacet power cable, that enables you to hook this directly up to Blacet power. The module works exactly as it would have in a Dotcom system--the power specs are identical.

The only caveat I have about this module is that it distorts fairly easily (same complaint people have with the Doepfer reverb), and you may find that you want to attenuate the signal somewhat before sending it in. What I did was to split my signal with a multiple, send one to the final mixer, and the other to an attenuator, then the reverb, and then the mixer, to be blended in there. You may not have a problem with this, if you tend not to push your other modules hard, picking up gain at each on the way. Finally, I found it most useful to place the reverb tank entirely outside my Frac Rack case, to minimize hum from the power. The cables are plenty long for doing this.

Here's the Synthesizers.com description: ' The Q115 Reverb module adds the traditional reverb effect to the sounds from your system. A 3-spring mechanical reverb tank is used similar to the units found in Fender guitar amplifiers. The operator has manual control over the initial reverb spring Drive and the Amount of reverb mixed into the output signal. Designed to operate with the large signals produced by other modules in the system.'"

  1. it's a shame, i've been looking for a spring reverb in frac format for years and years - if he was prepared to ship outside the us i woud have bid!!!

  2. yeah people need to get over that. shipping internationally is no big deal at all. its just a little more expensive for the buyer.

  3. You lose a lot of legal recourse when you ship outside of the US. You also just cut down on dealing with annoying, fake scam bidders by about 90% by just saying you won't deal with foreign bidders.

That said, with the dollar in the toilet you can make a lot more money from your auctions if you are willing to put up with the additional hassle...

  4. Hi, I'm the seller of this item...sorry about the no shipping overseas...I'm afraid it's been nothing but trouble for me, and just isn't worth the extra dough I'd earn by opening the auction to more bids. It's true that it isn't a big deal in terms of stuff to do at the post office...but it is almost impossible to predict what the shipping price will be, I always seem to get it wrong and lose money, and buyers complain a lot about delivery time and customs problems. I was always asked to lie on the customs forms, too, which I'm very, very uncomfortable with.

Anyway, thanks for checking out the reverb, hope somebody enjoys it.

  5. Yeah, I agree with inverse. I have done the whole "shipping overseas" thing a few times before and it was a complete nightmare. MUCH, much more hassel than it was worth. All of my auctions are US/Canada only now. I would honestly rather take a few bucks less than ever deal with the nightmares I faced dealing internationally again.

  6. Not to mention that this is not ROHS compliant and you could get slapped with a hefty fine if you are caught importing it in to Europe.

  7. i'm afraid that's quite bollocks.

he isn't going to get fined for shipping this overseas. the most that can happen is that it can be seized by customs.

it's a legacy service part. it's also used. your Kyoto treaty has no application here.

however, lying on customs forms _will_ cause problems.

  8. Im afraid stg that you are wrong. Let me guess, you are from the states, right? I ask becuase in Europe we know that they are VERY serious about enforcing the ROHS and they will indeed go after any violators whether they be companies or individual citizens. Like any poice division or traffic division, they make money off of the fines to sustain their operation so there is no way that they would just look the other way and not fine you. Where are you getting your information from? I know of a couple people personally who have been issued fines for ROHS violations. Maybe you just did not get fined becuase you did not get caught. If you were to have gotten caught I can guarantee they would have fined you.

  9. anonymous commenters have the most credibiltiy in legal matters. especially when they say "yeah i know a guy who ..."

so why don't we hear about these people getting thrown into jail for buying boutique guitar pedals? i don't believe you.

  10. and also enlighten me on which government body is going to fine me? is the Belgian Embassy going to send troops over to my studio?

i don't lie on customs forms. that's punishable by US law. this module _is_ compliant through exemption ... it's a legacy service part.

  11. Yes, you're right. I forgot. Americans know everything.

  12. BTW, I said they issue fines, which is true. I never said anything about jail or troops, so don't twist my words.
