6 people in the UK got them, I phoned around trying to get one but no dice, Yamaha will be rolling them out to the few record stores on the tenori UK website in the next few weeks, you can pre-order them by paying between 50% and 100% of the price depending on which shop you talk to. I also spoke to Yamaha UK and they said the record stores would get their allocation then they would be available to order online (UK only) after that. I asked which would be the quickest way to get one and they said keep an eye on the website. I bet someone is going to make a killing on ebay selling to international buyers.

ReplyDeleteI doubt it. The price already translates to $1200 US and from all the comments I have heard on the various internet forums so far, most people think this think is way overpriced. I think the only people who will really buy these are signed musicians who have that kind of money to spend on a toy like this.

ReplyDeleteOverpriced indeed, and I honestly think you could achieve the same results with a bit of good old sequencing.
ReplyDeleteI'd spend that much money on a piece of good software (e.g. the complete Ableton Live suite) these days.
In addition, the internal sound engine is old AWM2 and there's no USB connection on board...of course you can load your sounds on board but I think Yamaha should have considered total pc / mac integration before anything else these days.
It costs less than the Monome256.
ReplyDeletePlus (maybe low-quality) sounds.
Plus it is already assembled
Plus warranty!
I think that if the concept suits you, it's worth the money.
I could easily foresee some kind of hack/upgrade in the firmware to give the thing a lot more complete midi system.
