TouchBox prototype very first demo

"A tutorial showing how to create, build and upload a simple patch on the TouchBox synthesizer. The patch is really simple so the sound is very rough :).

  1. I'll be glad to get rid of those nasty semi-weighted keyboards, knobs, slides and push buttons. Then I can do everything with a mouse, PC and touch panel. I really hate tactile feedback. NOT!

Did I miss the point or something?

  2. The very first demo. It's going to take a couple years for this to mature, I think.

  3. Is this a multi-touch interface or is it some garden-variety single-point touch screen?

  4. Unfortunately, it looks as though the evaluation board used to build this has been discontinued; if anyone knows otherwise or can suggest an alternative, please post!

beaker: I don't know, the idea of a bank of sliders that's perfectly adapted to the synth it's controlling and gives me immediate visual feedback on every control sounds like a rather nice interface to a synth... not to mention an analogue sequencer that's as accessible as any hardware, but not constrained by knob count... Sure, you won't want to try playing on one, but there is a MIDI interface to take care of that; the idea of a huge great touch panel devoted to realtime controllers is... swoony. :)

On the other hand, if someone grew up with Buchla kit, maybe they would be OK with playing on one...?

(Incidentally, why does Blogger assume I'm a robot, even when it knows I have a Google account..?)

  5. What do you mean by Google thinking you are a bot, Gwenhwyfaer?

  6. Just its insistence that I still have to fill out a captcha, with something like a 3-minute timeout. Since there's already captcha protection on the Google account, I can't see why it's necessary to reaffirm my humanity every single time I comment... let alone be penalised for actually thinking about what I write. I didn't realise it timed out at first, either; I was almost assuming it was set up to reject the first captcha by default.

Worst of all, it means I can't post a comment from within a text-based browser. I do like to use one occasionally, to cut down on bandwidth usage.

Of course, this isn't your problem at all; it's not personal to me (although my annoyance is); and it's quite off-topic here: I was intending what I said to just be a sotto voce moan about the worst commenting system in the world, Beta(TM).

    ...but you did ask. ;)

  7. Got it. I just disabled it. We'll see how it goes with the spam bots. If they come back and it gets bad, I'll re-enable it.

  8. Gwenhwyfaer.

Re-reading my comment, it sounds bad. I take it back. I guess maybe it's not my thing, but it may be someone elses dream. I should appreciate anybody creating anything that furthers the potential for artistic expression through audio synthesis. Sorry for sounding so sarcastic and cynical.
