ANALOG SYNTH SID 8580

more images

"This is a hand made Analog Synth with SID 8580 as the sound engine. It has a 2x16 Blue LCD, RED LED power and BLUE & ULTRAVIOLET midi in indicator LED's. There are (6) BIG GREEN ARCADE Buttons to select menu functions. There is also an extra GREEN BIG SID MENU SELECT BUTTON on the side. It is the same function as the small gray one on the front. There are midi in and outs on this unit.

_it has blue, ULTRAVIOLET and red LED's
-this version has artwork on front panel
-All internal wiring is CAT5 and hot glued down at the solder locations to survive a very long lifespan
-the front and back panels are very thick clear and Transparent RED plexiglass.
-12v AC power adapter is included (WALLWART)
-It can be edited via CC midi messaging.

This item was a prototype I had for about a month, that is why it is 'Used'. I was going to keep it for myself because of the Rare 8580 SID chip but i have decided to let it go. The wood is painted C64 case color. The bottom has a few scratch marks on the wood. You can't see them unless you lift the unit up and take a close look.

The difference between the 8580 chip and 6581 is that the 8580 sound more musical and has more clarity. The resonance is also a bit more defined.

Here is the myspace link to here a demo of what it is capable of: It was mixed down in CUBASESX. The demo's here however re from a 6581, i haven't had the time to record the 8580.

All songs are 100% SID only, the first song only has VOCODED INTRO."

Not fully analog. More info on the SID chip here.
More info on MIDIBox here.

  1. Is this one of the midibox SID synths that are being sold on ebay in breach of the midibox license?

  2. Seriously matrix. Is this guy paying you off or what? After all the crap before you said, point blank, that you would not post any more of this jerks stuff. Yet here you are again helping him promote his stolen midibox designs. You should seriously just remove this post all together. It is starting to make you look like you are in on it at this point.

  5. On top of the possible IP violations, I hate this guy's low end approach to construction, with the cheap 2x4 frame box and $2 lexan face. Add to that the CAT-5 wiring he swiped from somewhere. $20 of parts indeed. Sprinkle the magic voodoo of ebay keywords "Analog Synth", and you've got a nice little profit.

  6. This is the same seller that has been selling these midibox sids...

Very disrespectful to the commnity that DID ALL THE HARD WORK TO DEVELOPE THE MIDIBOX SID.

I wish there were a way to stop him, but thanks to the anonymity of the net, he might be getting further technical support on the midibox form as we read this.

  9. Hmm, I didn't know the whole backstory about this guy until reading these posts. Unfortunately I already put in my $15 bid. I haven't had a bid retraction in years and don't wanna cock that up, so I'll just suck it up.

Sorry about that... ignorance is bliss, I guess... I just saw the green buttons and clicked the bid button like a goddamned magpie.

  10. Yeah, the green buttons are what got the post.

  11. "Yeah, the green buttons are what got the post"

I still don't get it, matrix. You knew this was the same guy, its very obvious he is still using the same ebay seller name and the same design. And you DID say that you would cease to advertise this guys auctions since he was violating the midibox creative commons agreement. Yet you continue to help him drive up his auction prices by advertising for him. What gives?

PS-@ flight-no flaming here, I'm just wondering why matrix posted this after he gave us his word that he sould stop promoting this guys auctions.

  12. You aren't going to win at $15 anyway.

  13. OK, this will be my last comment on the matter.

Just to clarify, the "dissent" is not just about the auctions but it is just as much about matrixsynth helping him to promote them. Matrix was informed about it after both the first and second post he made promoting blue_lantern and said he would stop making posts and helping blue_lantern promote his auctions, but he is continuing to to help him to sell his midiboxes by continuing to make posts about it here. This is the THIRD post matrix has made now promoting THE EXACT SAME midibox auctions, even after he (matrix) said he would stop. The reason this guy is able to sell these for such a high amount is because matrix is helping him to do so by constantly promoting him here on matrixsynth.

I realize that this site is funded by the ebay links, but if you tell us that you will stop posting these (blue_lanter midibox)auctions, and then turn around and go against your word and continue to do so it is a slap in the face to the entire midibox community. (which is alot of people) I hate to say it since I am a fan of this blog, but this is simply putting profits over integrity in my opinion. Like scarface said, all a man has is his word, matris gave his word and broke it. I lost a lot of respect for you today, man. And remember there are a ton of people that feel the same as I do.

  14. OK, so it looks like in your other comment at 3:29 that you are basically saying f*ck you to the midibox community. I see it is all about money for you matrix. Keep on helping this guy then. You just lost a loyal reader, I'm sorry to say. You lost all my respect.

  15. One last thing, you say that you will post anything interesting. How on earth is this "interesting"? You have posted this exact same thing THREE seperate times in the last 5 weeks.

  18. I agree with "I don't know." I can't really believe Matrix's "I don't have time to filter what I put up." It's not like there's tons of this stuff on ebay and it's impossible (or time-consuming) to tell whether the seller is violating a license. It's one guy and one product. Posting it up at all is questionable; the fact that you might make money off the auction is just sleazy.

  19. I've never heard of a Midibox until this post. That thing sounds great. Where is info on this whole matter and how does one get one of these if not this way? QuadraSid's are pretty hard to get. Is it a license like Sample CD's where you are just licensing the content to use? Never heard of a hardware anything you couldn't re-sell or even a DIY or product made from other ones - X0XB0X's, Synthedit Creations, Reaktor Ensembles, etc. If I buy this am I a criminal or amoral?

  20. I don't know why I didn't think about this before, but... I just removed the auction link. The post can stay up and the auction link can be pulled.

REWire, I updated the post with a link to more info on MIDIBox. It's at the bottom of the post.

  21. BTW, apologies to the MIDIBox community. I sincerely apologize. I know it is hard to believe, but I do sometimes forget things.

To "i don't know" and jamrod, no apologies to you. If you assume the worst in people, you will usually get the worst in people. Try assuming the best in people first, see what happens and then go from there.

I removed my comments as they were reactionary and I'm tired of having to explain myself and what this site is about.

And for the record, no this guy is not paying me off! No one pays me to post and I do not put auction posts up for the sake of the auction, EVER.

  22. Look at it this way (directed to the cranky folk) would you rather not know that this guy is running around being a jerk?

Leave Matrix alone, he's a reporter. He does not judge, he just informs. If he had to dig up the history on everybody involved for each post, nothing would ever get posted. I would rather him keep doing the incredible job he has always done and use that information to hunt down transgressors than impose censorship on the world of synths.

To reduce spam, comments for posts older than one week are not displayed until approved, usually same day. Do not insult people. For items for sale, do not ask if it is still available. Check the auction link and search for the item. Auctions are from various sellers and expire over time. Posts remain for the pics and historical purposes. This site is meant to be a daily snapshot of some of what was out there in the world of synths.
