minimoog bassline demo of Madonna - Get into the groove

YouTube via lewisjp8young.
"here's a demo clip of the bassline for the song (into the groove)it needs cleaning up with the correct notes etc. the sound is created by using very short decay times. the minimoog's 2 oscillator were very finely tuned by myself to get that grit sound that the minimoog growls out. if you know what i mean. these synths sound much better in real life."

  1. god bless this guy for posting this. i'm glad to see other people think the bass on this, in fact the entire production, is a masterpiece of pop music.

now here's the criticism. was the original bass line a unison of DX7 and MInimoog? i remember hearing that somewhere and i just heard it the other day on a nice full system and i was struck by how bright the bass was yet what strong bass content there was. you can hear some beating in the upper frequency content of the timbre which is not present on the original, which had that "bite" of 12 bit FM coupled with the powerful fundamental of analogue. he's also not staccato enough.

also, i'm waiting for those people who told me i was "playing" (eh, i sequenced it actually) the bassline to "Chameleon" wrong to chime in on this one. what ... too complex for you to criticise with a string of characters in a blog comment? ha.

but anyway yeah props to this guy for putting his balls in the wind to swing about on such a topic.
